The review below is not for the Eden Supper Club it is for the Garage. I've had a drink and a burger from the Eden Supper Club because they were serving to go style in plastic cups and hot dog trays behind Victory North. It's not the same place or location and as arrogant as the service was, I'm not suprised that they're trying to claim the success of a predecessor. The only thing they share in common was the use of a kitchen.
For the Garage, we miss you, your review still stands. Savannah is a treasure trove of pop-up spots that are here today, and gone tomorrow, Most of these places pop up and create a lot of hype, charge a lot of money for something unoriginal or just not all that special. I'm of the opinion that anyone entering the hospitality industry should have an understanding of the role they play in contributing to the culture of thier city and participating in the lives of the people that both live in it and pass through it. But maybe we're all cows, chewing on cud, and I'm just a cow, so I don't know any better. What I'm saying here is not that all restaurants need to "wow" the pajamas off of you, but at a certain point, it's time to up the ante, and "wow" is expected, because you're charging us for it. If everything on your menu is priced a la carte and you're charing $15 for tiny appetizers, I'm pretty sure I'm talking to you. If I may speak for the vast majority of wage-earning folks with no inheritance coming thier way, no trust fund to tap into, and no luck of the draw on the lottery, when I say there's an economy and expectation to dining.
Here it is: $10 a person - I'll gnaw on a burnt meat log for all I care. Clearly I'm just being flat out lazy and not even putting effort into being lazy. Hopefully I'm eating a halfway decent meal at home with fairly fresh ingredients and watching a movie or playing a game and being part of my family.
$25 a person - This is basically what it costs to eat out anymore, nothing fancy either, there are a lot of decent options here, but mostly I should be eating at home, because if I’m spending that much person on a meal at home it’s going to be great, and fancy, and there will be wine and woman and song and all the things.
$50 a person - I don't know, for some reason pricing models seem that skip over this, as if it weren't a reasonable stopping point on the way to $100 per person. It's usually where $25, per person went pulled out a rope and lassoed us in, then we end up requiring that another adult deliver us to our home, because that's the law. If I've spent this much on a meal at home, something got burnt.
$100 a person - Clearly I'm gambling on a restaurant to live up to it's good name and ability, perhaps on this night, well, I might want it to stand apart from the mediority of $10 and $25 nights, and live better in memory than the $50 nights.
There are three places in Savannah that really deserve to be $100 per person. There's Garage, The Grey, and Cotton & Rye. I put Garage at the top of that list because it's the place I look forward to going to. When I go to the Garage, feel like I've learned something about food. If my economy of food wasn't laid out clearly enough, like a lot of people, I don't spend $100 on dinner per person very often, and if or when I do, I'd like to feel like it was money well spent,
Our Bartender, Boyanna, I wanted to call her something more fancy than bartender, but I'm a simple man of complex tastes. I think I'll just stick with the basics. I just want to applaud her in some way for being straight up cool. Right down to the way she conducts her taste test without wasting a straw. (a good bartender does a taste test folks, like it or not, this is how they stay good, by knowing the product they just made) Thanks for being a great bartender, and to the Chef, whoever you are, everything was perfect. Steak cooked to perfection, the mushrooms were amazing, best dinner I can remember...
Read moreThis pains me to do this, and It's taken me a minute to calm down so I can write this review. Recently 2/23 my amazing partner celebrated her 30th birthday and it just also happened to be our 1-year anniversary, so imagine the excitement and nervousness to get this evening just right, as close to perfect as it could be. From the first moment we stepped into the Garage we knew we were home, then finding out the chef was from Chicago as am I, it was fate that this would be our new favorite eatery. Being a Thursday evening and having to work the next morning we wanted to do something lowkey and special, the ONLY thing my partner wanted to do was dine at The Garage. I scrambled to make reservations and was overly joyed as I confirmed for two at 7:00pm. We were so excited we couldn't wait and decided to pop in the Sunday before for a small bite and an old fashion. We had a wonderful time, wonderful food and wonderful conversation with Matt the maitre d' and spoke all about how excited we were to be coming in for her most special milestone birthday that coming Thursday. Thursday comes, she's decked out in a gorgeous new dress and I put on my finest suit (well my only suit) and we headed out. We arrived around 6:45 and found parking immediatly, I opened her door and escourted her towards the establishement, as we are walking up I receive a notification reminding me of my upcoming reservation and the excitement builds more. Then we get to the door, go to open it and find a CLOSED NOTE saying they have changed their hours to film for the food channel and would not be open that evening. Immediately the person I love the most in this world had her 30th birthday RUINED, DESTROYED. Now I don't want to sound petty cause I would be incredibly happy for them to be on the Food Network, BUT YOU COULDN'T HAVE INFORMED US, CANCELED THE RESERVATION, MAYBE TOLD US WHEN WE WERE THERE A FEW DAYS PRIOR TALKING ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT THAT EVENING WAS AND EXCITED SHE WAS TO BE COMING. The real kicker was they use an automated service for reservations, and it drove the knife in as we walked up reminding us of the dinner we had coming, how simple it would have been to have the app cancel for you. The lack of respect and inconsideration is just mind-blowing, there is no other restaurant I can think of that would treat their patrons like that and I hope to never find another...
Read moreIt’s been about a week since my partner and I decided on going here for my birthday dinner. And oh my, I haven’t stopped thinking and raving about it all.
The restaurant is smaller than expected ,yet big in all the necessary places.
I’m autistic so talking isn’t my best asset, but with the two sets of guests that were beside us doing our time, I couldn’t help but converse with them. The food and the atmosphere were just too good not to share.
Our server for the night (bless me, I can’t remember, but he had long and beautiful hair my girlfriend envied!) was the best! Very knowledgeable, warm and inviting. I hope he’s there when we visit again shortly.
The food. My goodness, THE FOOD! The menu is vast with it’s textures and ingredients. As a kid currently in culinary school, your menu made me emotional. I can only imagine how much fun it was to piece everything together..gathering inspiration, tasting, plating, etc. .
We started off with the Jerk Quail and my partner had Collard Green Caesar. Amazing. The Jerk Quail was perfectly seasoned and darkened to my liking. I would’ve ate down to the bone, if I didn’t want to seem indecent lol! The wagyu beef Crunchwrap…oh my oh my oh my! Decadent! We should’ve ordered a second and third to-go. The Catfish with CS Rice Grits…I haven’t stopped dreaming of it. By the time our server came to ask how was it…It was devoured.
BIG kudos to both the BOH and FOH, you all’s hard work and sacrifice will never go unnoticed.
TLDR; EVERYTHING was amazing. We live in Orlando and are pondering on just taking a day trip up to enjoy your...
