We stayed in the Chandler oak villa, which is stunning! It’s 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, full kitchen and gorgeous living room. The “villa” is beautifully decorated in a modern style. My bedroom had a king bed so tall in height, I needed a step stool to get into bed(I’m 5’4). The bed itself was soooo comfy. The room also had a absolutely stunning balcony with a sitting area that over looks the street. The view in an ordinary city would be “meh”, but this is Savannah, every street looks like a painting. The “Villa” style apartment is located in a house located next store to the main house/B&B. There are a good amount of stairs, so if you cannot navigate stairs, this villa is not for you. We didn’t use the kitchen except for leftovers, but fully stocked. Bathroom was nice.
They have a pool and many sitting areas in the back. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to enjoy these areas cause we were too busy. The main house it’s self is so charming and just gorgeous. We picked this Inn based on how beautifully “old southern” it looked. I’m obsessed with wrap around pourches and theirs is outstanding. Perfect for reading, enjoy your morning coffee and enjoying the weather. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to enjoy the main house as much as I’d like, except for breakfast. The meals are B&B style, which means you eat with strangers. I had no problem with this, my introverted partner didn’t enjoy it. If you’re not a morning person, probably not for you either. The food was very good! Nice quality ingredients, food was always freshly made, nice modern southern food. They’re also accommodating if you don’t like or allergic to any of their listed menu, if you give them enough notice.
Customer service was OUTSTANDING! The owner was a sassy, hilarious and kind hearted lady. We’d see her often with her darling dogs at night or in the morning for breakfast. She went above and beyond and got us a surprise cake for a birthday we were celebrating. Setting the cake up in our villa with plates, etc when we came back. The front desk lady(it changes) I want to say her name is Angela, well she was the best concierge we’ve ever encountered. She went out of her way to set up a tour that I wanted, but was sold out. She made it happen for us and I’ll be forever grateful. She even got us access to a speakeasy that most are not allowed. Even the cooks/cleaning staff were so kind. One lady even sang me a beautiful song.
My only complaints, are big ones for me...we had to clean up ourselves. I’m not talking, basic pick up you’d do in a hotel. We were required to strip the beds and take out the trash, start the disher washer, sweep, etc. Here’s the thing, I’m obsessively clean and cleaned up the entire time we were there, several times a day. So, cleaning isn’t the issue. The issue for me is, we paid A LOT of money for the villa, which was literally next store to the main house. We were not at a Airbnb, were the trash would have made the house smell or dishes crusted, but at an inn with cleaning staff. What got me is per the “book” in the villa with instructions, if we didn’t do all that I mentioned they’d charge us more! More?! I wish they would have said on their site house keeping was not included. Last thing we wanted to do was chores on vacation. Also, there were issues with booking. Their site at the time booked us a certain price, but they called us to let us know the price was a mistake and they were going to charge us more. We already paying an outrageous amount for the space, plus we paid extra for the breakfast in the main house. Once I told them to cancel our reservation and the owner agreed to give us the rate the site quoted(well over 1k for 3 days)
The location was close to a lot of nice attractions. parking next to building(forget if free). Next to a restaurant that can get loud at night(unsure if good). Sidewalk was very cracked(sprained my ankle on it).
We had a lovely time at this inn. It was the southern experience I was definitely looking for. I’d recommend it for a once in a lifetime experience, if don’t mind paying a lot...
Read moreWe had tickets for Jason Isbell Saturday night at the Lucas Theater, but it did not appear we would be able to make the show. Less than 48 hours from show time the Fates smiled upon: Saturday in Savannah was happening. Unfortunately the lodging options were thin considering we wanted to be within walking distance of the Lucas, while being close to local parks and the water. My wife did some fast investigating, made a few phone calls then presented me with the Azalea Inn & Gardens. The Midnight Garden B&B Villa was available, but we only needed it for one night. The Fates continued to smile as my wife informed me we could get the Villa for one night, and at a price in the range of the scant available hotels.
The Villa itself looked as new as the morning sun. It was as clean as a pastor's sermon, with all the expected amenities. I am a big shower critic, and the walk-in shower met both space and water pressure wants. The bed and pillows were as welcoming as a grandmother's hug.
The Azalea sits in a neighborhood near everything. Less than a miles walk from the Lucas (though we drove due to time constraints), and blocks away from multiple parks of which my early morning walk appreciated. Parking was ample, and for those concerned about safety there was nothing to instill concern even if walking at night.
My memory will not afford me all the specifics of what we ate, but I can assure you the homemade nut bar that greeted us upon our arrival, along with the orange sponge cake which welcomed us home from the show were unexpected and happily consumed. Then there was breakfast. Roasted plums, a delicious pecan french toast (I hope I got that right), sausage and flavorful coffee. We should have been more social at the breakfast table, but we were immersed in problems to solve back home. In the main house you have a variety of beverages at your disposal whenever your palate needs it.
And the decor of the dining room? Let's just say you'd better look closely at the characters in the historical murals, and you're cheating yourself if you don't ask someone on staff about who painted it, and what personality was added to it.
Most worthy of note is the friendliness of those who make the Azalea what it is. I wish I could remember the names of who we met through our stay. A wonderful woman greeted us with champagne and gave us a quick tour, knowing we were pressed for time. In the morning we were greeted with wonderful stories, along with sincere inquiry as to where we were from and why we were there. Even while sitting in the study reading, which is just off the dining room, a cup of coffee was brought to me. Black. She remembered how I said I liked it from the night before.
We will be coming back to the Azalea. Not only to experience Savannah (we try to get up at least once a year), but also to enjoy the grounds. The quaint pool screams "hang with me...have a few drinks and be social". If you want to get an idea as to what type of community you'll find at the Azalea here is my closing story. Early morning, maybe just as the sun was rising, a squirrel chewed power line and the Azalea went dark. While that might not mean much to the residents it meant the world to the staff cooking our breakfast. As I left for my walk they were hurrying about, leveraging neighbor's kitchens to ensure we receive our hot and...
Read moreFirst let me say that I am a VERY critical (some would say too critical) consumer. I expect people to provide excellent customer service 100% of the time. Funny, that expectation is too high anymore. The Azalea Inn exceeded those expectations. Took my 5 months pregnant wife to Savannah for our last trip before baby and stayed at The Azalea Inn. Our experience could not have been better.
Arrived late, so I had to call ahead to make preparations. The I keeper left a key to our room and instructions for checking in and breakfast, and generally made our late check in extremely easy. Super nice on the phone, then met her in the parking lot beside the inn as she was leaving. She introduced herself, and was absolutely wonderful. (FYI, the lot beside the inn is not theirs, but they have arrangements with the owner for $5 per night, off street parking. DO IT.)
We stayed 5 nights and it was the most relaxing trip we've ever had. Stayed in the Magnolia Room, which was great and had a wonderful, large private balcony and a PHENOMENAL mattress (from my wife who doesn't sleep well. She said it was the best sleep she's had in a while). Wifi provided no charge, refreshments close by, and homemade treats downstairs (apple crumble bars were awesome). The rest of the rooms were beautiful as well (we got to see some of the others when folks checked out).
We were able to pay for our lodging, our parking, and our bus tour with one swipe. The staff made reservations for is at restaurants before we even arrived, the called the shuttle for the bus tour, and tended to our every need/concerns. Breakfast was awesome and different each day. First course was usually baked fruit of different varieties. Second course hearty and delicious as well (and they made me scrambled eggs when something didn't look like it would mesh with my picky appetite). Coffee and OJ aplenty.
Teresa was absolutely wonderful. Lively, entertaining, and attentive. Loved the stories. Katie was excellent also (chef-in-training), and very attentive. Didn't get the names of the other three--innkeeper and two concierge staff, but all were EXCELLENT--and that is a strong statement coming from me. Would absolutely recommend this Inn over and over again. Everything was EASY! Oh so easy. A block and a half off of Forsyth Park, and a 5 minute walk to restaurants and shopping, plus all the other squares within the same distance. Job well...
