I waited until after my second time going to Stacks Pancake’s to write a review just in case my first experience was a one off.
Both breakfast I had were great. It was exactly what I would want for what I ordered. Good runny hot eggs (the way I ordered it). Crispy bacon, hot fluffy pancakes that were not too dense nor grainy.
The coffee is really good for a diner. Not bitter at all. I got corned beef hash which was very good. Old school and canned the way I like it. The breakfast sausage was a little different than I was used to. It’s a thick sausage. It’s good though. It tastes like a standard one just bigger. Finally the toast was good.. not over cooked, it was hot. I got rye.
I don’t normally write reviews. If I do they are normally negative because I suppose anger and disappointment is a factor to motivate one to write a review. I wrote one for here though because it is a good diner. People should know when there is a good diner around. There are not any really in this area. Maybe if you go to South Portland ihop is the closest thing to an American diner.
The service was great. They were nice. Really nice but not fake nice where they are going to talk your ear off. They checked on me maybe twice to see if I wanted more coffee.. which is good, some places check once and I was out of there pretty quickly.
So, my brother and I are fans of diners and this is what I would tell him when he will inevitably ask if there are any bad things about the diner. The answer is no, nothing bad. It is a little expensive, but to be honest all diners are these days and it is no less expensive than any other restaurant around here, but more expensive than Becky’s in Portland.
The only other things that were not 100% but still not bad. I am from Boston, I like small dingy dinners with people talking loud, waitresses with accents and my breakfast cooked on a fryer that has not been cleaned of bacon grease and lard for years. This was not like that. It is open and bright. My mom would have liked it but it’s fine for me, I prefer dingy with my food having that dirty fryer taste. This food tasted like it was probably cooked on a clean fryer.
Finally, I live around the corner and didn’t come here for a few months because I read some reviews that were not good. I cannot say that without a doubt, I couldn’t find anything to complain about. I guess the second time I came, I had to ask for cream . Who freakin cares I had it in about 30 seconds. I am shocked because everything was great. Really. It seems to not be busy around 7am so maybe go there before it gets busy.
Even my hometown favorite places could have a mistake or maybe they messed up. I’m sure if I go here enough that will happen once but I’m not going to write a review and blanket the place like that is standard.
The place has a big lunch menu, I personally don’t like that but I will give it a shot at some point and write a...
Read moreSuper cute space, love the vibe, very friendly staff! On a busy morning, we came to grab brunch and we expected a wait, that’s totally fine. We were seated with no problem - awesome! But, it took a half hour for someone to finally take our order after I asked for a server to please come by our table. We ordered beverages and one basket of fried food - so not even two meals. We got our beverages, super awesome milkshakes, by the way. But again, I had to inquire about our food a half hour after we had ordered. Our friendly server said the kitchen was behind in orders so when we eventually got our food, it was missing the fries that normally comes with it per the menu. We were here a total of 2 hours, most of the time waiting. It’s okay if staffing is short or if the kitchen is behind on orders, but please indicate that before you seat people! We had the time to spare today, but we watched a few families leave because they waited so long for a server to come by...
Read moreFirst and last visit on Sunday, 12/8. Started with server saying he's new. Asked for Iced Tea on the menu. We were informed they had no Iced Tea. 2 egg breakfasts ordered, 1 with a waffle. It seemed like it took a while before the food came. I had to ask for a refill of my coffee. Food was cold. Butter wouldn't melt on the waffle. Inedible cold. Sent one back and the server offered to pack it to go! No thanks. Second breakfast with toast did not come with the toast. When I asked the server said he'd bring it right back. It took a while again and got the toast warm but too late to go with the meal. We were given a $5 reduction for our inedible, cold, eggs we couldn't eat. It seems like there is no communication between the server and the cook to get the food out of the kitchen. I hope nobody else has to experience a...
