Was gonna get Charlie's Cheesesteak, but got this instead. My total was $21 for a gyro, cilantro fries, and fountain drink. First time. Man... Regret. I love gyros, so was excited to try a new place. What a complete bummer. This was not a fresh gyro. I'd be shocked if they sliced the meat. I assume it's shipped in a bag or something. The meat had ice cold and hot spots. Instantly tells me it was warmed up. The meat is thicker, softer, and wetter than you would expect. Anyone that enjoys a gyro knows the meat is tender but firm, has some nice browned bits, and is not overly wet since the fat drips off during rotation. The pita was also too soft and chewy. For a $13 sandwich with no fries or anything, it was small and uninspiring. I did not hate the cilantro lime fries but they are not something I would order again and I was over the novelty after a few bites.
Finally, and maybe worse then the bad gyro, was the terrible checkout person. She had the demeanor of an empty lunch lady. I'm not sure she spoke English, which would not be a huge deal to me if she could at least offer some eye contact or body language. And for anyone assuming I'm a bigot, I'm Mexican but my wife is not so we speak English together. This lady took forever to ring my order and kept staring out into the sitting area like someone stole something. After she finally tendered my sale, she literally walked away without even acknowledging the next customer in line. She made her wait a couple minutes while she talked to the staff. I mean, if you have to relay an important message, whatever, but freakin say, I'll be right with you, or something. When she came back, she did not offer a sorry, a hello, nothing. Again, even if she literally could not, fine. Then smile or be welcoming with your eyes. No, just a dang lunch lady robot.
Sad first experience. For $21, I'll go to a real gyro joint next time. There will not be a...
Read moreI've had the opportunity to enjoy Falafill's food twice. The first time I was passing through Schaumburg and wanted some quick takeout. I saw their sign as I was driving and decided to try it out. It turns out it was their grand opening. I ordered a chicken bowl and thought it tasted very fresh and flavorful. This past weekend I had my son with me who has never really experienced this style of food. He ordered a falafel wrap and loved it. This really surprised me as he's usually "Mr PB&J" or "Mr Mac-N-Cheese". He even asked me this morning at breakfast if we could get takeout from there tonight. I ordered a falafel bowl with baba ghanouj, chick-fava, spicy zhoug and couscous and thought it was delicious. I had to ask what the bright pink vegetables were and found out they are pickled turnips. I've never had a turnip in my life and didn't think I would like them but these were very tasty. We also ordered the pomegranate-hibiscus and lemon-mint drinks which both had a very nice flavor. The pomegranate drink was much less tart than straight pomegranate juice and smelled 'flowery'. The lemon drink had a very pronounced mint taste on top of the lemon. I'm not usually a big fan of either lemon or mint individually, but this combination balanced the two flavors nicely and I would consider ordering it again.
The person who took our order was very friendly and answered all my son's questions about the different toppings for his wrap (and gave him some samples). We dined in this time and I thought the interior of the restaurant was extremely clean and the decor is nicely done. I think the food and atmosphere are great and will make sure to stop in with the whole family next time we go...
Read moreSo ive been eating at this restaurant since they opened their store front across costco on Meacham rd. Loved everything i tried. When they reopened their store now at the mall, i was very excited to have them back in business. I eat there atleast twice a week. Everything had been going great. Until this past week i went to get my usual order which is a shish tawook bowl, and was beyond disappointed to see theyre now using chicken breast big CHUNKS instead of the small bite size dark meat. The lady serving me said dont worry its the samething. It truly left a bad taste- pun intended. It was dry and had to bite the chicken everytime. My daughter just left her bowl as is because it was so difficult for her to enjoy her bowl which she LOVES so much. I really hope this breast big chicken chunks was just a one time thing. Otherwise i dont see myself going...
