Hugs Mugs Gift Shop & Cafe — Restaurant in Schaumburg Township

Lower rating for how the woman (guessing manager, she was wearing a pink beanie hat) behind the counter was treating one of the employed gentlemen. I believe his name was Eric. He was very nice, greeted me when I walked in and asked how he could help me. I asked for a menu for the coffees. He said they didn't have a menu but he could suggest the different flavors they had. I was listening but the woman interrupted him and started reading off of a list I guess. He gestured to her and said she would help me, to let me know she would be taking over. I guess she didn't like that because she then told him to "be quiet" and "wait your turn to speak". Which was crazy, because he was already doing that.

I understand this is a place for supporting individuals with Down Syndrome and I am all for it. I am not however, for the condescension I witnessed towards said individual. In an ideal world I would like to come back to support, but there needs to be a talk with management here. Maybe someone with more patience and self-awareness and actually wants to work with the interns they employ. Kindness always

Despite that they open this souvenir and gift shop to support Down Syndrome Individuals. In regards to the Gelato it needs some improvement. I do not know who is making the Gelato or where they are getting it from but I did not like it. I had ordered the 2 scoops for $3.28 and I did it just to support Down Syndrome awareness just like supporting the Girl Scouts or Boy's Scouts for cookies and popcorn. The texture of it was a meh and the taste of the flavors I choose like the Pistachio was too sweet with sugar and no hint of the Pistachio. I do not mean to put the Ice Cream Parlor/Gelato shop down but It really needs some improvement. They do sell mugs and over souvenirs to support Down Syndrome which is a good thing but I just wanted to comment since I thought the Gelato would taste great at $3.28 for 2 scoops and 2 flavors. This place is just amazing, much like their interns, 🥰they offer some of the best ice cream and milkshakes I’ve ever had we recommend the peanut butter cup 🤤 the treats are as awesome as their mission to help make young folks with Down’s syndrome visible and better accepted. They teach their interns valuable life and work skills and the community how valuable everyone can be when you take the time to look! They have make and take custom mugs and/or water bottles you that you can make for a steal at $10-$12 plus, they also offer birthday party parties and corporate events that are all hosts by an inter whom has downs. They are such an awesome bunch over there, it’s a fantastic family friendly ice cream stop with some of the sweetest smiles too! Hugs not required but if your lucky enough you might get one too!
