Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Schaumburg Township

It's been so long since we stopped in a Steak n Shake but I couldn't think of anything negative on my recent visit so 5 stars it is! This place has always brought nostalgia to us in our young adult years and we were pleased that it was still a pleasant experience! Our family arrived late in the night and they were still an hour from closing, half of the chairs were put up on top of the tables but the remaining staff was all good to let us in (no thanks to Chicago Ramen -- read my other review about it) and put extra chairs down for us.

We had no wait in ordering since they had opened kiosks. It was super easy process and it didn't even break a bank. We got our bellies filled for a family of 4 under $30 with drinks and kids meals. The most expensive "meal" was my Spaghetti Chili 5-Way at $7. With inflation in the economy nowadays, I’m shocked that price still exists. Everyone loved the skinny fries and it tasted great with their Frisco sauce.

The only thing that was a bit of a hassle is that you needed to keep a QR code to scan for drinks. But if the machine gives you any trouble just ask staff for help and you should be good to go. Another bonus is the bathroom was very clean and that's a great impression.

We used to come here with our friends for late night meals and this place brought back some memories. I'm just glad they're still around and the food still tastes great. It's not your upper high end restaurant and if your expectations are in line, it's honestly the perfect place for a quick eat. Our whole family and kids loved it. This might be the only five star perfect score I've ever given on Google maps. I stopped in here and wanted to order one of their "4 meal deals". I was getting the double original steak burger with the Tallow fries. I was having a little difficulty with ordering online because even though it let me select exactly how I wanted the sandwich I wanted to make a comment to have the grilled onions on top of the burger with lettuce and tomato on the bottom which it probably would have been but I've had other places do weird things with the arrangement of stuff like that. I went to the location instead and honestly had a little bit of trouble with the kiosk because it would only let me omit the cheese and didn't have the option for extra cheese which would be cheese on both patties like you can't do online. There was a guy there I think he was a manager or maybe shift lead, I was going to ask his name but didn't want to be weird about it. Anyway he was on the taller side with a red shirt and goatee and had absolutely no problem helping me out order it the way I wanted I even forgot to say I didn't want the standard condiments like ketchup buddy listen to exactly how I described the order and took that off himself 👍. The food was was great and the Tallow freeze didn't even get soggy or greasy after they cooled off which I had to Google and I guess that's a benefit of freeze fried in beef tallow. 100% great job with that guy and this location. I am so sick and tired of going there and not being happy. It was always something. Cold food, wrong order, no cheese, what next? Well today, we ordered 3, four for $4 originals I was the only one who chose the 4th item, of coleslaw. The others who didn't see anything to their liking chose to skip the fourth item, now they could have wasted the additional item and just order it and not eat it. Instead they chose to save Steak and Shake money by not ordering so They got burgers, fries and a cookie, and no 4th Item. I did as well except I chose my 4th item as coleslaw. The waitress when confronted with the check and the fact that the FOUR FOR $4 Meal was costing us each almost ten dollars. She said we didn't order the Four for $4 meals. When on the check it says THREE, Four for $4 meals, one with cole slaw 2 no additional sides. So again when confronted with the fact she made an error, she bent down to my level AND TOLD ME I WAS WRONG!!!!!!!! WOW. Then I was confronted with the fact that my cole slaw negates any meal with mine. I was so insulted by the waitresses comments we tried to leave but was halted by the 15 minute wait to pay. 10 people waiting to pay. Ridiculous. We waited, paid, got the heck outta there.
