This Chinese restaurant is pretty good, but I wonder why it's not crowded.

Update 2/2025 Excellent quality Chinese cuisine. Nice lunch special with many selections on the menu to meet all diets and restrictions! Update 8/3/2024 Old standby Chinese - can't go wrong. Always fresh and generous quantity on your entree's. Service is fast and friendly. Professional Chefs are their trademark. Yumsville !! ————— Update 3/20/23: We’ve been coming here for over 15 years. Food and service have had its good and not so good times but, it has picked back up significantly as of this review. The dining rooms need a little bit of renovating as some booth seats are torn. They’ve gotten away from providing the thicker nicer Yu’s napkins and also don’t give you enough chili oil like they used to with your entrees. You have to request hot tea as it’s not automatically brought or suggested when ordering. It’s these little touches to dining at the old Yu’s that I miss a lot. They still make the plum sauce which is great with the egg rolls and crab rangoon. The egg drop soup is better than other places as it not only has tofu pieces but little baby shrimps too. It’s served piping hot to your table. The main entrees of walnut shrimp, Kung Pao chicken and Rainbow rice were all delicious with generous portions . Signature provincial flavors are delicious made by the team of professional chefs with over 100+ years of collective experience each with their unique food specializations! You really can’t go wrong here as all the food is consistent and you can watch them prepare your order. thru the glass. They make their own handmade noodles daily as well as offer some Korean dishes. Good location, great food and still one of the best Chinese in the burbs. ———— Yu's is still the great standby where quality remains the key ingredient to all the dishes. Carryouts have been great over the last 2 years and with dining out being back in full swing it's the best. Portions are great and we live that they now offer a take out large garlic chili sauce condiment. Everything from signature Walnut Shrimp to Kung Pao Chicken is still delicious! ———- Been coming here for years. Food is still very good but has gone down a little and has been under new management for some time now. Portions are still about the same maybe a little less but ingredients are fresh that they use in the dishes. Service was just ok. They got our order wrong and it took them awhile to bring out our appetizers. Plus, they didn’t bring all entrees to the table together. My husband had to wait awhile for his entree. Tea was luke warm not hot. Plus, one entree came to the table that none of us ordered and we had to tell them to take it back. A little disorganized with food and timing of bringing it. It was not busy so they should have been on top of things better.

First, I want to say the food was delicious. I was taken there by a friend after our 1st choice restaurant was closed. We had the Korean style spicey seafood soup with the lollipop chicken. The food was delicious. The texture on the noodles was nice, slightly chewy, and the seafood was not overcooked. Just right. The chicken was crispy, savory, spicy, and sweet. Such a good combination on the taste buds. The atmosphere was comfortable, and you could tell they were a little busy with the number of people who were in and put of there. My only complaint was the service. Our server did not greet us with a smile, asked what we wanted to drink, and we said we would start with water. She said ok and left. Came back and took out order, took the menus, and left with no interaction. A different server delivered the food. By the time I was 1/4 way through with my soup, I was out of water. She made no eye contact with our table, never came to see if everything was fine with the food or if we needed anything, never refilled our water. We had to ask a different server for chop sticks, as well as to pay the bill. We did flag her down and started to ask for 1 knife and water, but before we could say only 1 knife or water refills, she was gone. She came back and put 2 knives on the table and again walked away without speaking , asking if we needed anything else or looking at us. Because I've worked as a customer service supervisor, a head of house hostess, and do food reviews, I felt I had to watch her other interactions with her tables. She did attend to them by bringing extra napkins, water carafes, asking if they were fine, etc, and visiting their tables 3 -4 times. We decided to speak to management as it did leave a poor taste in our mouths, and we felt as if we were not wanted as guests or as if we did something wrong. Considering all she did was take an order, bring 2 knives, and drop the bill, we did not leave a tip because she did nothing to earn it. I know servers live on tips, I have been one and know it all too well, but I know all too well if I gave poor service. I get no tip regardless of how busy we were. It costs nothing to be polite, to give a smile and make someone feel welcomed. But it does cost you when you give bad service. I am normally a generous tipper at least 50-60%. But I couldn't award poor treatment. So the short of it, if you want delicious food, they are great as you see the chefs prepare it through the windows, but hopefully your server will reflect the brand and not only deliver delicious and wonderful food but wonderful service.

I don't know WHAT happened to Yu's but the last two times I have really been horribly disappointed. EGG ROLLS: I ordered the vegetable egg rolls and they smell absolutely HORRIBLE. They smell like very old grease out of a drain, literally. I split one in half and it's not even cooked on the inside and has slimy appearance (see photos). This is even worse than the last time. The last time the egg rolls were just greasy but edible. This time they actually stink right through the bag and I gagged when I opened the bag. I swear on all things holy they LITERALLY smell like a grease trap. HOT & SOUR SOUP & CONDIMENTS: The hot and sour soup is ALWAYS good. I ESPECIALLY enjoy their jars of ginger and hot mustard (they absolutely ROCK and I literally have to have a jar of each in my fridge at all times). BEEF FRIED RICE: The beef fried rice is SHOCKING! I intended to feed my little dog the beef and myself the rice & veggies. She was all excited when I got home and I immediately opened it to get the beef out for her. The following picture shows how much beef was in the WHOLE $10.99 container! It is a bunch of rice with frozen peas and carrots and NOTHING else. No egg or scallion or anything but frozen (obviously) peas and carrots. I have never even SEEN beef fried rice with frozen peas and carrots! This is literally all that beef that is there and I literally scraped through every grain of rice with a fork. BTW: She was so excited when I got home and she eagerly awaited that plate. She sniffed the pieces of beef that I put in the plate and picked one up in her mouth and dropped it and walked off. She LOVES egg rolls and I offered her a bite thinking maybe it was just my nose. She stuck her head up into the air rather dramatically. It definitely wasn't my nose that's off. 😓 I need to also add that I never would have offered it to her if I thought she would have eaten it because I won't feed her anything that I wouldn't eat myself (yes, she is my little love and gets premium food and we ALWAYS dine together 🙂). I was kind of thinking that maybe my nose was just over sensitive but she confirmed that it was not. She ordinarily absolutely ADORES egg rolls. I only wish I took video of how she stuck her nose up at it. I will be ordering the hot and sour soup again and of course replenishing the ginger sauce and hot mustard but that's ALL.

This is our 3rd time dining at Yu’s. The first 2 times were fantastic! The food was hot and delicious, with services that were first class - excellent, friendly, and fast. We raved about our great experiences and refer many to try Yu’s if they didn’t. Yet this last Sunday night, our experience was horrible to say the least. We had reserved for 6pm dinner for my mom 79th birthday dinner. We were about 15 min early and yet we were seated quickly before 6pm. Yet that was probably the only best things that night. Our waitress was friendly but might have been short of help? The food was lukewarm when they were served to us (except for the beef noodle soup and lollipop chicken — a gentlemen came out with them). The portion of the entree, kong pow fish, was small which was part of the dinner deal which included 1 soup picked from 4 soup choices and a platter appetizer. Not worth it! Greasy and cold. They didn’t have the vegetable dish that was on the menu as one of the choices you can select if you didn’t want soup. The table was NOT cleared and clean but they brought the cake out that we got from a bakery. Then charge us $10 for their “cake-cutting service”. That’s fine but styrofoam plates and plastic forks? Yet we were not even given a cake cutter /spatula to actually cut and serve the cake? Not white glove or classy for sure! Another lady besides our waitress end up checking in on us - getting a small box for our leftover cake and receipt to end the night transaction. None of us really wanted the leftovers - but did so only because we felt bad to “waste food”. I attached a picture of the cold orange chicken.. you can get a better tasting orange chicken at your nearby chinese small takeout place. You can see the stack of soup bowls for the fish soup we finished earlier but never cleared out in spite of there many trips to our table. I was definitely glad to leave and realized regretfully we didn’t even have a group picture for her birthday event.. what a bomb! :( We will think more than twice if we will return.

TL;DR: HAIR IN FOOD. IMMEDIATELY ACCUSING CUSTOMER WITHOUT AN APOLOGY Had a sweet and sour pork this evening. As we were eating, we noticed a hair embedded IN the sour pork (see photo). Informed the server (shoulder length, brown hair woman) that there was hair found in the sour pork. Without an apology or an acknowledgement, she immediately scanned my hair (long-hair) and compared it to the hair, which made me feel absolutely stunned. I was speechless by that initial action taken by the server. (+ relay of looking between my hair and that piece of sour pork took a good minute). After I further explained that the hair is clearly in food, and it was there from the Beginning. She then finally went back to the kitchen. Once returned, she asked if we would like a new plate. Obviously lost an appetite after seeing this and ultimately felt offended/disappointed by the service provided this particular server. Thus, we asked for a refund for this item. In the final check, she removed the cost of this item from the check and said ‘sorry’. My evening was completely ruined. I am still shaking from what happened and being accused of. This made me feel like I was in the wrong. I loved Yu’s, but this particular experience will prevent me to go to this specific location from now on.
