The German food at Metzger's is delicious and the portions are appropriately sized portions for the individual diner! I believe the selections are fairly priced. The food is presented in a visually pleasing manner. The hostesses and wait staff were friendly and helpful. Their service was timely and efficient. They asked their customers if this was their first visit to the restaurant or if they were returning customers. When the food was delivered, the waitress would explain about the food if needed. The atmosphere is pleasant. The walls are decorated with cuckoo clocks, steins, and shield of the various German states. The lighting in appropriate for dining. German folk music plays in the background. There are some souvenirs available at the front desk of the waiting area. There are several tables available for outdoor dining. Metzger's is conveniently located on Zeeb Road just off of the I-94 exit. I am looking forward to the next visit! I was backing Ann Arbor today. I stopped in for a later lunch. I chose the Reuben Sandwich. Oh my! Honestly, it was the best Reuben sandwich I have had! The corned beef was so smoothly flavored. The sauerkraut was perfect. It was almost shaved like angel hair pasta is to regular spaghetti pasta. The Swiss cheese melted into the kraut. The two ingredients melded the two flavors perfectly. The bread was toasted just enough to be crunchy but not tough. Together they were phenomenal. I may have found my new menu rut at Metzger's.

We’ve been going here for past 26 years- - 2x a year, Fall and once in the winter- Over the past handful of years, I noticed a quality change in some of the food items- Prices of course have increased greatly but for most part I thought they were keeping portions the same- My husband usually gets the rolled up tender beef with pickles, which is still prepared terrifically, but seem to be getting smaller- We even thought way back years go, you got three or maybe they were just much bigger- $25 is about our cap- his German potato salad and red cabbage were tasty I got the Copenhagen schnitzel- Two very large, well prepared, tender pieces of fried veal with a Swiss cheese sour cream sauce- Truly, without the lemon the sauce was bland- My cabbage and mashed potatoes were tasty $25 We thought the mashed potato and cabbage sides seemed to be smaller servings…Service was ok- Nothing bad but not engaging or extra- She took our meal orders , brought us our food and the bill- I don’t know if we will make a winter trip, this year- It’s quite a drive - We’re older and although a tasty meal it didn’t leave me looking forward to the next visit-

Had always wanted to stop here, but whoever I was with would veto. So I found myself alone in Ann Arbor and finally went inside. Nice decor, but was met with a young waitress who seemed to not want to be there. An older lady took over and things went well from there. Some reviews state that the food isn't too "authentic." Perhaps, but businesses need to cater to what people like. I wonder if truly authentic food would do well in this area. Sure, it wasn't the experiences I had in Frankfurt, but it was OK. It wasn't the authenticity, but the preparation. The Wurst Platte I had was very ordinary, but for $24.99 it was not OK. Plate was lukewarm and the wurst was from a local supermarket deli. For that price, they could source better. Even have homemade sauerkraut or something unique. This platte should be $15 tops. Just like many Chinese places don't give you a truly authentic experience, but they don't have to. Americanized Chinese can be delicious and usually prepared fresh piping hot when it comes to the table. Regardless, the place was packed so Metzger's will be fine. Prime location by busy highway exit. A place like this boils down to expectations and it all depends on what yours are.

Absolutely Delicious! While on a spur of the moment vacation, my fiancee and I have crossed paths with Metzger's. Upon exiting the car the smell of german food filled the air and I was instantly excited. We were greeted at the door by a friendly staff, seated quickly and served a stack of sliced brown bread as our server took our drink (beer) order. We opted for a couple light German beers and an order of cheese spread to go with our bread/appetizer. The cheese spread is great and to be honest I think my favorite part of the meal, so don't be afraid to order one, or two! We then decided to each get a variation of schnitzel. I got a pork schnitzel with mushroom sauce (and lemons) and she ordered weiner schnitzel (veal) with capers and lemons. We both opted for the German potato pancakes which are both interesting and delicious as well as the spaetzle and gravy. The meal was authentic, interesting, and delicious. The restaurant was clean and inviting with an attentive staff. I have been to Germany multiple times and this food did not disappoint. We do not live anywhere near this restaurant and we both agreed, we will be back soon!

What an amazing restaurant! The online menu alone was enough to make me want to eat there! The inside and outside of the restaurant are decorated with everything flags and banners depicting the different states or regions of Germany! Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted with German music and a panorama of steins, flags, banners, paintings, and stained glass panels. Beautiful! However, the smells greeting you are pure heavenly aromas to entice your tummy to growl in anticipation! The staff are excellent, friendly, and helpful! The wait time from ordering to the food arriving is minimal, especially when they bring you some fresh brown bread and butter and glasses of water as soon as you sit down! I ordered the schnitzel, and it was cooked perfectly and so tender I could cut it with a fork! If you have ever wanted to try authentic German food, this is the place to go! If you are longing for the flavors and smells of the old country, you MUST go to Metzger's! They have been in business 95 years! They know how to make German food!

Stopped by because of the sign on the highway. The food is great, the waitress was so friendly, attentive to every table, and informational. The chocolate torte was the star with the texture somewhere between a ganache and a flourless chocolate cake. I would go back just for the desserts. The wursts are all fine ground and rather spongy, which usually isn’t what I’d go for but they were delicious nonetheless. We had the haus platter for two between two people. It could honestly feed four. Edit: Went again and the soups are consistently delicious. The potato pancakes were crispy and paired well with applesauce. The strudel and bread pudding was good, but not worth coming out here for like the chocolate torte. If a dessert doesn’t specify homemade, they brought it in but made locally. The house special sauerbraten was unfortunately and surprisingly not good. It traditionally uses a tough cut of meat and it shows. Tough, dry, and a little reminiscent of cat food. No amount of marinating can save eye of round when it’s cooked this hard.
