This place was really just a complete show stopper. I came here this past weekend with my family not expecting much as it was just a last minute reservation my mom suggested for us to have dinner. We arrive as it was going to rain and they practically insisted they sat us inside and offered us a reserved table up until the time it was set for so we were able to eat in the building even though we booked for outside. Our waitress was so lovely and while I can’t remember her name I certainly remember her. She was new so she was having some trouble remembering some things about the menu items but she was very transparent about it and I honestly never would’ve guessed she was new at all. She was extremely attentive, very very sweet, seemed like she really cared about our experience and overall was just a delight to have as a waitress. My mother got a cocktail she found delicious and our waitress helped my grandfather find a bourbon selection he would like because they didn’t carry any of the ones he wanted but she kept going back and checking for him and ended up helping him settle on something he enjoyed very much. On to the food: We ordered the Brussels sprouts and their bread as appetizer’s and when I tell you that was some of the best bread I have ever been served at a restaurant I am not kidding. It was a warm hot brioche bread stuffed with butter in the middle and pulled apart so easily to serve into several pieces. The Brussels sprouts were also very delicious and while I do enjoy Brussels sprouts on the regular, these were good enough for me to get every time. when I opened up the menu and was looking down at the steaks I was absolutely astonished to see a filet mignon for 30 some-odd dollars. I figured it was probably just okay but I ordered it anyways because I just felt like having a steak. I ordered it medium rare with a baked potato on the side (very good as well but it is also hard to go wrong with a loaded baked potato) and when the steak arrived it was probably one of the better filet mignon’s I’ve had in my life and I have had a lot of good ones. It was so juicy, so tender, and so much flavor. Often times I find while the steak has juice and is cooked well it is lacking in flavor but this filet was packed with it. I am mostly so astonished because of the quality paired with the price. My family also enjoyed their entrees very much which is saying a lot because usually somebody has some critique to make, speaking of only one was made the whole dinner and it was that the cream of spinach was “too rich” for my father and he said he had never had cream of spinach be too rich for him in his life. After we finished our entrees they still offered us dessert even tho we were nearing our deadline of 7:15 (we had sat down at 5:45). We ordered the butter cake and coconut creme pie I think it was, and when they brought it out they also brought out their chocolate cake as a little treat they said which was very very sweet. I did not have any of the desserts since I was full but the butter cake looked absolutely delicious to me and I wish I had taken a bite. They did not rush us out even though they had a timeline to follow and given I think we were still respectful of their timeline, they did not make it a stressful experience for us at all. Overall this was an incredible experience that I hope to have again very soon and I plan to have my birthday dinner here this coming week now. The service was excellent (something that is rare nowadays), the food was very enjoyable for an extremely reasonable price that I personally think should be raised, and the restaurant itself was beautiful. I have never ever left a review on a restaurant like this but I am just incredibly impressed. The service was better than most fine dining and high end steakhouses I have been to and the food I would dare say rivals them. Please please go here you will have a...
Read moreMade reservations on Open Table for my daughter's 19th birthday - they only had tables available on the patio (was a little worried about it being too cold but that is where she wanted to go so we went for it). We arrived, the restaurant wasn't terribly crowded - they put the 3 of us at a round table for 6 which was a little awkward. We weren't offered any other options (inside or otherwise). When our waiter arrived, she told us about the specials and we ordered an appetizer (which she offered to comp since we were first timers), a lemonade and 2 glasses of wine. Water was brought out for 2 of us, so we asked for another and never received it. The appetizer came out after a decent wait - still no wine. We were nearly finished with the appetizer when the waiter came back to ask us if we were ready to order. We pointed out that we were still waiting for our wine - she seemed confused and went away to see about that. Another wait.....then we ordered and THEN our wine appeared. My husband had finished his glass by the time the meal came - our dinners were dropped off without any ask on refills for anyone (daughter's lemonade was also empty and we still didn't have the 3rd water). My daughter and I each had an entrée that was $32 - both were ok - definitely not exceptional. I got the crab cakes which were very mayonnaise laden and came with coleslaw and French fries. Was it worth $32 - definitely not. My daughter had the prime rib and said it was good. My husband had the gnocchi and short ribs which wasn't actually gnocchi but ricotta "puffs" which were good but not gnocchi. There was no mention of the birthday we noted on our reservation. We had been there for quite some time by the time we finished our meal (still no offer of an additional glass of wine or anything) so we decided to cut our losses and take her out for ice cream on the way home. So much for "special occasion" or "birthday" being noted. I don't think...
Read moreMy love told me that our meal here would be the last one... No it's not what you think! We aren't doing a suicide pact ala Romeo and Juliet! Nor are her and I splitting up. No. This place will be coming under new ownership by a chain. Today is the last day as twisted Grove, she believes. And she must have that crab cake and greens! Will they continue to have this crab cake at this place with new owners? This crab cake tastes of the New England crab she was used to. Big chunks of crab, not all breading. She had to have it. My desire to please her can only be matched by her desire for that crab cake. And it's so good, she eats her greens with it. She doesn't even eat greens usually. Oh I tried it, and the texture was delightful, but see... I've been striken with the taste-bud zapper Covid, and could not taste a damn thing. Oh, woe is me to have not a single taste nor may I ever taste this as she has and had. Yes, her heart was full and compassionate enough to give from her final cake a futile bite, she must at least be fond enough of me to share this final delight of hers. She did not weep at the last bite! I believe she has hope she shall taste it at least once again. Please, new owners, do not crush her hope and desire by removing this from the menu, and I shall not ever dishearten her. This review may be for naught, as the place changes owners and names. But her and I shall know of this moment, this bite, of pure and shared (vacariously thru her, damn these crippled taste buds)...
