I had great intentions of leaving a review more recent post experience and somehow got too busy so apologize to to Billy their bartender that night and the manager for my tardiness, but hopefully better late than never- . My husband and I were looking for a place to eat near where we were that was plant-based friendly and somewhat healthy or at least didnāt just serve french fries and plain salad as a plant-based option. Given where we were driving not wanting to make it an all night search or contemplation⦠I whipped out my phone and saw this place so we said why not? Upon entering my heart sank as there was no table seating and it looked like the wait was long -it was Saturday-and the place was small and super packed. All good signs for a great restaurant, but we were kinda starved so waiting wasnāt really an option if it was longer than 30 min. for bar or table - good thing we thrive on experience and I love a challenge to make plant-based eating work ANYWHERE. I can confidently say that every staff member that made contact with us from the hostess to the bartender Billy, was super friendly, accommodating and welcoming. We had a delicious chop salad that I donāt remember the name of, farm to table veggie platter, grilled asparagus and shoestring fries. I had the fresh lemonade and my husband had a recommended beer which he loved. The food ALL OF IT was amazing and very filling , the asparagus was huge, we had to modify our order a bit to make it all plant-based friendly but was never made to feel like we were making requests that were out of their boundaries or being high maintenance. I was glad we tried this place and we met and was served by Billy and the rest of the staff and will definitely be back with our son who is an omnivore so he can indulge in some of the foods that probably makes makes this place popular along with the seclusion. Go early or make reservations itās definitely worth the...

Grassroots Kitchen & Tap is the kind of place that makes you slow down, savor, and reconnectānot just with great food, but with the people youāre sharing it with. Nestled near Marguerite Lake in McCormick Ranch, itās the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxed dinner followed by a sunset stroll.
We started with the Club House Salad, tossed in a creamy garlic dressing that was bold without overpoweringāfresh, crisp, and beautifully balanced. Then came the Almost Famous Pork Chop, and it absolutely lived up to the name: apple cider-brined, topped with candied pancetta, and paired with shoestring fries that were addictively crisp. The Spitfire Chicken was equally impressiveājuicy rotisserie-style with a smoky edge, served alongside a soulful New Orleans dirty orzo that added just the right kick.
Their wine selection is thoughtful and local, with plenty of options to complement the meal. You can tell they care about sourcing, not just for flavor but for community impact. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with a touch of Southern charm in the decor and hospitality. Every detailāfrom the warm lighting to the attentive staffāfeels intentional and genuine.
What stood out most? Grassroots is family-owned, and it shows. Thereās a sense of pride and care in everything they do. Itās not just a restaurantāitās a place that feels like it belongs to the neighborhood. Whether youāre catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet dinner, itās a space that invites connection.
Highly recommend for anyone who values great food, great people, and a place that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMet a girlfriend here for lunch the other day. I'd not been and was thrilled to see Shrimp & Grits on the menu (it's one of my all-time favorite dishes).
There menu has a lot of yummy looking things - salads, apps, and entrees. It was almost hard to choose.
My GF has been there before and ordered the Club House salad, which she thoroughly enjoyed (and likely a regular order for her, as that's the type of salad she usually gets). While I was tempted to order the Short Ribs or Pork Belly app, I got the Shrimp & Grits. Like I said, it's one of my fave dishes, so had to order it. The menu says that it includes a 'tasso ham relish', I didn't know what to expect but went with it (because I LOVE Shrimp, Sausage, and Grits so was assuming it would be similar). The 'relish' portion included onions and peppers, they were good but wasn't a fan of this addition. The dish was good enough, but I'd likely not again it again unless I opted out of the relish and went with a more 'pure' southern version. The grits were VERY tasty!! Maybe next time I'll do the Short Ribs, they include the same grits.
The place was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful, and when I told her about my food sensitivities/allergies, the server was helpful and wrote it down to make sure that the dish did not include any of those items.
It's located in one of those centers that has a slew of businesses in it, which I hate because I always have a hard time finding the spot I'm looking for. This one is right on Hayden Road, so you see it as...
