Detailed review: overview - if you are going to a nice restaurant for some form of celebration, please go to Steak 44, Elements, J&G or Keg. This place is not worth it. My full review is below…
My wife took me here for my Birthday Jan 7th, the experience was pretty bad & the food was nothing short of awful. -My wife made the reservation and noted it was my birthday but no such accommodations were made. -We had asked our server for bread service prior to ordering food or drinks, we then received drinks and placed our order. I then asked the server taking care of the table next to me to bring bread as mine had forgotten. Still nothing, then the busser, finally got it for us. The old fashioned I ordered had small cubes (any whisky drinkers reading this review will know this is unacceptable for a restaurant of this caliber). Then instead of remaking the drink, they poured the old drink over a big block cube, (it was very watered down). Our steak was ordered Medium Rare, both my wife and I got the porterhouse. When it came out, the steak was a little on the rare side, which okay no big deal we can put it back on heat and get the temperature up to Medium-MR. After a while steaks came back out and it was medium well. sides: We ordered Brussels sprouts , garlic mashed potatoes and mushrooms. The garlic mashed potatoes were very good!! As was the mushrooms, both of these were exceptional however the Brussels sprouts were burned and very dry (I like mine well cooked but these were quite literally black). I asked the busser who was next to us to bring over steak sauce , he said he would bring our server because there are many different options. So the server who forgotten our bread came over and asked what kind of sauce I would like, I asked what do you have? He literally replied “A1”…….. I already was receiving Applebees quality service and drinks so this really put me over the edge. If I had wanted a subpar steak with A1 I would have went to Outback!!! he was being a smarta** with me. At this point I was furious. the manager came out and I explained to him everything going on, he was very polite, brought me birthday cake and took care of the steaks. Our “primary “ server was good, I’ve had better and I have had worse but the 2nd server was seriously getting on my nerves. Had never been to Mastros I thought the sauces would be explained. Experience 2/10 (because of the manager- otherwise it would have been 1/10 Food: (1/10 - my wife and I agreed we would have rather went to Keg, J&G or Steak 44). Ambience: Good ambience, location did not have a view but it was nice. Drinks: (3/10) I feel like I can’t give a 1/10 here because I did not order anything from the menu, I had WR double oak on big cube and 2 old fashions, which were not the best as explained above. In Arizona there is definitely better drinking spots without a doubt. I can name several.
Will I come back? No. Would I recommend this restaurant to anyone? Definitely not. Please step up your...
Read moreI have had a great relationship with Mastro's and sent them many many customers as a concierge. When people looked for fancy and/or great steakhouse I would send them over and they always loved it. I personally like the place and I'm reviewing and rating based off of one main key thin - the steak that I ordered. (But I will touch up on other parts about my visit)
So the steak was good but it just was not great for me which anyone would expect paying such a high price. I got the rib-eye and it was a bit too dry for a rib-eye and it did not have the flavor I was hoping for. Most of the flavoring seemed to come from them buttering it up so much rather than a rich grilled taste I was hoping for. So with that said I personally would simply rather go to Texas RoadHouse for their bone in Rib-Eye for half the cost for the taste that I enjoy.
The sides. Mashed potatoes and asparagus for me. The asparagus was very buttered up too and not cooked enough to my liking but I can't really blame them because I liked my asparagus burnt and I did not specify cooking instructions. The mashed potatoes was also very buttery like everything else my brother and I ordered. I do like my mashed potatoes buttery and rich so I actually really liked it. The side portions are pretty huge and can easily be shared.
For dinner we were offered their famous popular butter cake. This thing was huge and just too much for the two of us but guess what...we ended up finishing the whole thing. It was delicious and probably addicting is the best way to describe it.
Few other things worth mentioning besides food before I opted out. There is valet service and the service is good. The interior is fancy as one would expect and it is more on the quite and dark ambiance. The middle sections closer to the bar in a bit more bright and lively feeling.
All in all, this restaurant is a great treat for a special night with friends and family and they are very good at accommodating special needs (sent over many many wealthy and high profile guest) I'm just mainly disappointed with my steak option and perhaps maybe in the future I need to try different options or re-try my rib-eye option. Until that day may come, I'm leaving this as a four...
Read moreStill on cloud nine after our amazing night at Mastro’s. From making the reservation to the end of the night they made our night even more special. We chose Mastro’s for our 20th Anniversary after hearing so many great things. We were seated right away at a high top we requested and were given menus to look over as well as our drink orders. Our menu’s even said Happy 20th Anniversary at the top. How cool is that? Soon another employee came and asked if we’d like bread at the table. We were pleased to see it was 4 assorted breads with a side of butter. The pretzel bread was phenomenal. The lighting is romantic, some may say too dark to read menus etc so may need some light from your phone, but I loved it. There was a gentleman singing live. He was amazing. It was the perfect sound level to enjoy talking with your party. We started with the shrimp cocktail as well as lobster bisque. Both were amazing. They offer cream and chives to be added at the table once the soup arrives. There was a great amount of lobster and so creamy. Everything was so delicious and I was afraid if I kept eating I wouldn’t be able to eat my actual dinner ha ha. We both chose steak, 8oz filet mignon and a bone in filet 12 oz I believe . For our shareable sides we chose garlic mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese and asparagus. When it all arrived at the table the employees were so quick to help clear our other items we’d finished to make room our dinner. They offered to plate the sides for us and oh my goodness, SO DELICIOUS! My wine paired well with it all. Just when I thought the night couldn’t get any better they surprised is with cheesecake and phenomenal whipped cream. Hands down some of the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. We left so full. Thank you so much for an amazing night. We can’t wait...
