We were looking for a breakfast place and got a recommendation for a place in the same parking lot/strip mall as PHX Beer. That place was packed with a crazy hour and a half wait, so we looked around and saw PHX Beer and decided to try it out.
PHX Beer is a cool place tucked away in a central but somehow a corner of the mall. The have a huge interior and a nice sized outdoor eating area. That's where we sat. Our server was incredibly friendly and quick with drinks and recommendations.
My wife got some kind of skillet without meat, and my son got a bit of both a skillet and french toast. I got their B.Y.O.B. (Build Your Own Burger). The breakfast options were plentiful and nicely prepared and the skillet actually is served in a skillet. I think she got the corned beef hash skillet minus the hash. It has a base of breakfast potatoes (well done - just how she likes them) with scrambled egg whites, red peppers, green peppers, salsa, onions, and Swiss cheese with sourdough toast. It really looked good. The French toast also looked really good and came with a side of fruit. He got the All In (2 sausage patties, 2 strips of bacon, 2 eggs, breakfast potatoes, and sourdough toast but replaced the sourdough with the French toast. It all looked and smelled wonderful.
I got lunch instead of breakfast. My B.Y.O.B. is a 1/2 lb. or grass fed brisket patty, which is a little juicier. My choice of cheese, which I took American, with lettuce, pickles, and mustard. It was a great burger. It came with slaw or seasoned fries, so I chose the fries. They were perfectly made, not too crispy and not too soggy. Like Goldilocks, they were just right. The bottomless Diet soda also helped the meal.
I know that Butters Pancakes and Cafe is in the same lot and has the long lines to get in, but, skip that nonsense line and go to PHX Beer. We were satisfied immensely with our meals. The service was great, the ambiance nice outside overlooking the pond, and it's a great place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. When I'm back in Phoenix, I'll be back...
Read moreIf you are looking for a place that quickly has a waiter to come with rudeness and attitude when you and your friends just want a beer, this is the perfect place.
Twice I and my friends tried to give this place a chance. We often ride our bicycles from Tempe to Scottsdale. This seems ideal, right off the lake, quiet and clean. Again we rode our bikes there. The waiter was quick to thrown down menus at our tables, only to tell us the kitchen is closed and we have barely 40 mins to get our drinks. You think he was talking to some of his staff versus treating us like customers. Oh other customers near by, they were giving the white glove service even new customers coming, not us! We had our first round of drinks, only again to met with a quick another round or the tab? Since we saw other people enjoying their drinks, we decided to have another round, only to be told how soon we need to leave.
Instead of us enjoying our drinks, he (the waiter) proceeded to talk about our conversation about how great their bar is over others and how their beer is superior over others, which is all fine, but we came there to be like the other customers, to be left alone. He also had to let us know that our bikes being parked in the empty patio area was a fire hazard. We left and went back home.
Two to three weeks later, we went back there again. Hoping this time would be different. Foolish of us. We parked our bikes away from the patio, we knew what beer we wanted, only to be met with the same rude waiter, having menus thrown down on the table and we were given a time frame or limit on how soon we need to finish our beer. I asked for our beers and our tab.
I will never go back there again. I didn't appreciate being treated like I was poor, unable to speak English, or like the janitor just having a beer while on the job. I don't work there and the obvious bias was apparent.
Great location, but the attitude and the rudeness, yeah I will let everyone know about this place.
Good luck,...
Read moreWe could not wait to leave. The noise level was equivalent to that of a maximum security prison.
We made a reservation and asked for an outdoor table. None were available so we were seated at one of those tables that every restaurant has, but no restaurant should have. We should have left then, but just didn't feel like looking for a reservation someplace else. Bad decision.
In all honesty, the food was very good, our rushed and harried server was OK, but the noise level was the worst ever. Take that from someone who used to work of the flight deck of an aircraft carrier.
We have been going to this location through many iterations over the 23 years we have lived in Scottsdale. We love the location and were among the first new customers when PHX Beer Company took over. But, if we ever go back, we will again request an outside table and if one is not available, we will leave and go someplace else. The noise level was so bad, my tinnitus is starting to act up again. It is definitely a health hazard. I don't think that they can expect a lot of repeat business from locals if they don't do something about it. They need to remember that the snowbirds are not here for most of the year when people like us keep the restaurants alive.
One of the worst experiences I can remember is any...
