This place was recommended to me by a friend. I have had a hard time finding good BBQ ever since I lived outside of Kansas City, MO growing up. Being from there, my standards for BBQ are high. Other places I have tried in the Valley have had brisket that was way too dry and overall mediocre food. Not so this place!
Rudy's is an incredible breath of smoky air and delicious food. The moment you walk in the senses are excited by the smell of smoked meats. The ordering process for the food is incredibly easy and I was delighted by the samples of the moist and lean brisket and the smoked turkey. My wife and I ordered the moist brisket, Rudy's beans, the green chili stew, and the banana pudding. The brisket was divine and did not need the BBQ sauce to taste delicious. The BBQ sauce itself was also delicious. I only tried the sissy sauce but it was delicious and had just a hint of kick to it still. The beans were not the usual baked beans but still quite delicious (my wife doesn't usually like baked beans and she really liked them too). The green chili stew was very good and had a kick. The banana pudding was a glorious ending to the meal! From what I tasted of the aforementioned samples, the lean brisket and the smoked turkey were also incredibly delicious.
We also appreciated the fact that we were allowed to keep our large soft drink cups and bring them back for cheap refills like a movie theater cup.
The service was great and they were very happy to help and we loved the country atmosphere of the restaurant. The place was full of older people and people on lunch break as we went on a Monday at lunch time. Obviously this is a very popular place and it is very well deserved. I have not tried Little Miss BBQ yet but my wife says that Rudy's is almost equivalent to them and in a much more convenient location for us.
10/10 we will be coming back. Rudy's is exactly what the...
Read moreUPDATE: I pleased to say after waiting 6 months, I went back and tried Rudy’s again. This time around it tasted like actual brisket! It was great tasting and enjoyable! Was a bit on the salty side but hard not to escape that in a restaurant setting vs made fresh at home. I still feel like Rudy’s could improve on their sides as the potatoes and beans lack any rich flavor. Price is expensive too. Definitely a 4/5 experience. If I’m looking for something different for a meal I’ll definitely stop back in but won’t be going out of my way.
ORIGINAL: I was incredibly disappointed with this Rudy’s, especially when it was their second day open. We came in to pick up brisket to-go to take home. There was only a few people in line as it was before 4pm but you would have thought the line was out the door based off how frantic the kitchen acted. We ordered 3 pounds of moist brisket. Should have paid better attention to the meat when they weighed it so was pretty shocked to open the container for dinner and the slices of brisket were brimming with fat. Yuck! They had sliced the brisket super thick versus how I usually get it too. This was nothing like the Rudy’s in Mesa or in Austin. It was tough and tasteless to boot. Afterwards the meat made all of us super thirsty. My mom called and complained about the amount of fat we had to cut off to even eat it and the lady was very odd acting regarding the feedback but did offer for us to come back in other time so hopefully then I will update my review with better feedback. Overall, I was super disappointed by the quality of meat especially when it came in at nearly $100 just for 3...
Read moreI've been seeing this place under construction for the past several months and was very eager to try it when it finally opened up 3 weeks ago but just didn't have the chance what with Thanksgiving at all. Finally went and give it a try and was very confused by the whole process because this place does not do your traditional two or three meats and a side plate that you were really accustomed to getting in any barbecue restaurant. This place, you simply purchased the meats by the pound or half pound or quarter pound and then you buy your side separately also to note, this place has no macaroni and cheese on the premises. How a barbecue restaurant can exist without macaroni and cheese is beyond me. The food itself was good id say. The juicy brisket was juicy although wasn't all that hot. The pork ribs were also kind of just barely warm and just not all that fresh or soft if that's the right word, tasting just kind of hard. The corn on the cob only came with one stick on one end so you had to hold the other end of the very extremely hot corn to eat it - made no sense. The only saving grace I would say would have to be the turkey. The turkey breast was absolutely scrum diddlyumptious and probably the only reason I would go back. The atmosphere is good, it's nice it's very large the people are friendly but ultimately it's just a very confused overall vibe. Also, 3 1/4lbs of meat and a corn on the cob should not coat $28 pre tax. The prices are absolutely out...
