Wish I had left reviews here before, since previous visits have been 4-5 star experiences... And I don't like leaving bad reviews. But hopefully this can serve as a good learning point for the business. Our visit yesterday left me feeling a bit disappointed, well, and very hungry.
Arriving to Teharu yesterday, was the feeling like all the other visits. Hungry! Excited to grab sushi off the conveyor and be satisfied! I've been experienced with this style of sushi since the late 90's, its a popular concept from my hometown of Honolulu. Anyways, we were seated as usual, and begin. But slim pickings were on the rotation (mainly cali roll styles). I see the ladies making lots of sushi in the middle. I'm assuming more sushi is going to be put on rotating table, but they were all hand delivered to other patrons. We sat for probably 25 minutes before truly realizing there was no new rolls being put out, and maybe I should get someones attention if I want something since I kept seeing rolls being delivered.
Confused, and extremely hungry, I only took 3 plates off rotation, 1 being seaweed salad and a separate order for miso soup. I was HUNGRY. Why wasn't there ANY rolls on the rotation? I got a servers attention, he asked if everything was ok, and I pointed to the belt saying (there's no sushi) can I order something? He then proceeds to tell me that they are close at 2:30, and will check if he can get some rolls, "what do you want?" I attempt to order 2 plain hamachis hurriedly as he says "I'll go see if I can get this for you"... I look at my watch and its 2:27. 🤦♀️ I got the hamachi delivered to me from the sushi making lady who spoke Korean, I said to her "Kam sam nida" to her - or thank you in Korean, she looked back at me shocked for 2 seconds. I am Korean. The guy who placed my hamachi order seemed apologetic and wanted to make sure we were happy upon our exit. He was nice. But it was closing time already... FOOD was what I wanted - him being kind to me while we headed out the door wasn't of much help.
Ok, so we must have arrived at 2pm unknowingly that they closed @230. Knowing that we walked in "late" for lunch, why were we not made aware of this when we walked in? Why were others placing orders, when we had no idea that was something we could even do? No body encouraged us to order food. Everyone seemed to be receiving rolls delivered and specially made, except for us. I was a jealous onlooker as people got all these fancy rolls... lol 😆
Advise to owners, please be more mindful if patrons walk in late. You may want to kindly let them know that your closing in 30 minutes and encourage them to place an order, because there's barely any sushi left on the belt. (Which is completely understandable because you were closing soon.) How are you going to make business from a person such as myself who is sitting there hungry and clueless? You won't.
I ended up going for pizza afterwards. True story. 😔 It was good. Weird mix though.
Your sushi alone deserves more stars.
I think Covid has affected businesses everywhere, especially when it comes to food. Hours of operation, to food wastes. I get it. I really do.
But, to be able to walk into a rotating sushi place, and walk out satisfied, is what makes me happy. I wasn't able to do that yesterday. I know there will be better times than this. I'm not...
Read moreCame in to eat and watch college basketball on the two televisions they have. After walking in and being assigned two seats at the bar, I simply asked the waitress (ABBIE) if I could move down two seats so I could have a better view of the televisions since there were plates blocking the view of the TV. She absolutely refused me to move down two seats at the bar, even though the store was empty. After asking why she said “I was told that by my manager told that.customers must sit in a row and cannot have but 1 space between them.” I was given the option to sit so close to the TVs it would be very uncomfortable to look up to watch. I asked if some of the plates could be lowered on the bar so I could have an unobstructed view of the TV she no and once again offered the table underneath the TV. When I asked why, she rudely said “let me get my manager”. The asst. Manager came out and started down the exact same path. I asked since “when did this place become so non-customer friendly?” I had never been in a restaurant that refused to allow a customer have an unobstructed view of the TV or allow them to sit in a place they felt comfortable! The asst. mgr did allow the chef to lower the level of plates for which I thanked him. The waitress ABBIE then proceeded to stand behind me with her hands on her hips making me feel very uncomfortable. Next thing I know, the store manager, Sung was standing behind me and said hey Eric ( because I’ve been going there for years and we have had a great relationship all along) what’s going on? I tried to explain to him what had transpired and was interrupted a few times but then he let me explain just how incredibly rude and insensitive his staff had been at his direction. We went outside to discuss in an effort to not make more of a scene. He kept telling me how much he loves Abbie and how great she Was at following his demands and could not bring himself to see that this was a very simple request and that Abbie could have and should have seen other options that could have done to save my business from leaving for good. His absolute need for control of power was clear. I had explained that for years I had passed SEVERAL other Sushi restaurants to come there but now I will never step foot in here again! The rudeness and the unwillingness to satisfy a simple request of having an obstructed view of the one amenity they have in the store is unforgivable.

Read moreI can't sing their praise enough!!! I absolutely ♥ TEHARU! I constantly crave their sushi! I went there for the first time a couple years ago! As soon as u walk in, you have a choice to sit at the bar, or at a table... Either way, a conveyer belt with fresh, ready made delicious sushi will be passing by you, and you can just grab whatever your ♥ desires.... It's nice to walk in, sit down, and start eating, there's absolutely no waiting for food! So many different kinds of sushi, and delicious food to choose from; California rolls, Vegas rolls, green muscles, seaweed salad, spicy rolls, rainbow rolls, Edamame, and so, so, so much more, and to Asian bottled drinks, slices of cheese cake, and other delicious dessert.... And their prices are VERY REASONABLE, and the plates the items come on, are all color coded, and are 2$, 3$, 4$.... They DO also have a regular menu, for non sushi eaters, with like teriyaki chicken and rice, ect. A group of 4 people can eat until their stuffed, for about 60$... And the service staff is great too. The music playing is typically the current hits, and isn't too loud either. They do have an open kitchen concept, right in the center of the restaurant, which is always a nice treat. But I can't rave about this GEM enough! It's my absolute favorite place to go. I always choose to go there for all our family get togethers, birthday dinners, i will use any excuse to go, LOL... So if you LOVE great sushi 🍥 like I do, and don't want to go broke to get it, you must go to Teharu! I haven't been to the other locations, but I CAN verify that the Frank Loyd Wright location is...
