I want to preface this by saying I'm not blaming my server or the kitchen staff.
I went inside to eat with my brother last night. Everything was okay, he really enjoyed his sandwich. Mine was a little soggy and the gumbo was too thick to enjoy but it was fine and the food was good enough.
My issue didn't arise until after I had ordered a 6oz filet to go with another sandwich and a piece of cake. The 6oz was for my 13 year old who had no idea by looking at the menu that the steak dinner would cost $35. Thirty-five dollars for a 6oz? I'm sorry, WHAT? The price isn't listed online or on the menu within the restaurant. I was expecting $15-$20 and a total bill of around $50 but instead walked out paying $72 + tip for the food. It may not seem like much but I had saved up enough money to have dinner with my brother and leave a 20% tip (which I was unable to afford because the steak was so expensive so I left a measly $11 tip on $72 which is horrible) specifically to celebrate the memory of our mom and it wound up costing me more than I could afford/save for.
Please list these prices online or on the menu. I understand that they can vary but at the very least, there should be a verbal price from the server given to the diner. Again I'm not blaming anyone nor did I send it back and refuse to pay because the kitchen staff labored over my meal and the server brought it to me. The most ridiculous thing is that I ordered it as a medium and it came rare. Thankfully my 13 year old has worked through a lot of their sensory issues and wasn't deterred by it being red inside.
While I personally will not be going back, I wanted to let everyone know to check the prices with the staff for the food without prices listed because if you assume the steak you're getting would be reasonably priced for what it is, you are most definitely assuming incorrectly.
Overall, the experience was fine and the staff was wonderful. I'm not one to complain nor is that my intention - I just don't want other folks to find themselves in this position sending food back because they're surprised by the cost when...
Read moreI have been eating here since the restaurant opened, but doubt I will return. I enjoy the food for the most part and there are a few menu items that I specifically come in for. The problem is the terrible service. I came for dinner last week, and the waiter was more interested in visiting with people at another table and other staff in the kitchen than waiting on his tables. I came in for dinner last night, and ordered Meatloaf, an item off the "Special" Menu. Usually these items are already cooked, and need only to be put on a plate and served. I waited over 15 minutes, the waitress was no where in sight, and neither was my food. They were not busy at the time. There were maybe 4 or 5 other tables besides me, with 1 or 2 other waitresses besides mine , so there was no excuse for it taking that long to get my order. I didn't want to wait any longer for service, so I asked the only person I saw working how much it was for the iced tea, He didn't know. Another waitress walked by, she said she would take care of it. Not long after that my waitress showed up, I asked her how much the tea was, that I wanted to pay for it and leave. With an "Attitude", she said don't worry about it, and as I was getting up to leave, she came with my plate of food and asked if I wanted it to go. I told her no thank you. There was no attempt to find out what the problem was, no apology given, or attempt to correct the situation. I called and spoke to the manager after I left. I told her what happened, and that the staff did not care about their customers. Based on some of the comments I read here, I am not the only one who has had this problem. Brad, this is why I will not be returning to eat at your restaurant. From my recent experience, your wait staff are arrogant, and more interested in other things than taking care of...
Read moreA Seabrook Staple for Over 30 Years — Classic Café Never Disappoints ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 out of 5)
My family has been coming to The Classic Café for over 30 years, and it remains one of our most beloved spots in Seabrook. This place is more than just a restaurant—it’s a historic local staple and a must-visit if you’re in the area.
Despite having changed ownership a few times over the decades, it’s held on to its charm, quality, and excellent service. The restaurant itself is small and cozy, so parking can be a bit tricky, especially during peak times, but it’s absolutely worth the effort.
The menu is incredibly diverse, offering everything from fresh red snapper and crab dishes to classic burgers and onion rings. They do a great job of blending casual comfort food with Gulf Coast seafood staples. The ranch dressing on the salad is so good it’s worth a special mention—it’s one of our family’s favorites!
They offer kid-friendly options, and whether you’re a small group or coming with a big party, they’re usually able to accommodate. It’s a wonderful spot for birthdays, anniversaries, or casual family dinners, and they often go the extra mile to make special occasions feel memorable.
We even bought one of their restaurant T-shirts as merch—something we rarely do unless we truly love a place. That says a lot.
Final thoughts: Just a few minutes from the Kemah Boardwalk area, Classic Café is a quieter, more authentic dining experience compared to the tourist-heavy restaurants nearby. If you’re visiting the Seabrook or Kemah area, don’t miss this gem. We absolutely adore it and will keep coming back as we...
