I ate at Reflections Bar & Grill and left full, happy, and only minutely disappointed.
First, the service we received was great. Our waiter was well informed and demonstrated enthusiasm with their acumen of the menu and each item's composition.
The wait for our food was decent, no more than 15 minutes. this was negligible because there was good conversation happening with my party, encouraged by good ambiance and the waiter passing by to inform us of various things about the restaurant and the menu items. We settled on ordering two soups-- the Salmon & Clam Chowder, and the soup of the day: Chicken Tortilla; and an order of fish and chips, with Halibut as the fish of choice.
The soup came out at a great temperature and with robust flavor. The clam chowder was topped with salmon and what tasted like "light" green onions. The chicken tortilla was more my speed as a perfect puree blend topped with multicolored tortilla strips and our waiter added some freshly ground black pepper to mine which gave it a warm, subtle, sting throughout each bite. The crackers of choice that came with our soups were "Partners," and these were the highest quality crackers I've ever been given with soup. The way they broke, without crumbling, and with a solid firm texture added an amazing crunch to the soup. As they sat in the soup, they absorbed the moisture and stayed together, rather than falling apart into mush.
The fish and chips was delightful. The Halibut was fried to perfection, light and not too hard, but still with a dark batter color. The chips came in the "sidewinder" style and made a fun choice for dipping. Nothing on this plate was too salty, but actually on the "needed salt" side, which I think is better than being over salted. This allowed for the condiments (the sharpness of the tartar sauce, the smoky flavor of the ketchup) to magnificently balance the dish.
To finish our meal, we ordered a crème brûlée, and it was alright. I'm definitely used to having it delivered immediately after being torched, providing a tantalizing contrast between the heat and density of the crust and the soft, cool taste of the filing, however this one was cool/cold throughout. We requested that the berries be ordered on the side, but that didn't happen. It just so happened the berries were strawberries (which I have an intolerance/mild allergy to), and I was unable to fully enjoy the dessert.
The booths were comfortable, the silverware was simple yet effective, and each piece had the brand/logo etched/imprinted into the silverware, which was a great aesthetic touch. Lastly, the floor and table base beneath us were sticky, to the point I was making rhythmic sounds with the stickiness.
Normally, I include photos so you all know what y'all are getting into, however I wanted to be fully present and not have my phone on me. I hope you still appreciate the detail in...
Read moreCame here on a recommendation of a friend to give the place a try.
I'm giving it a 4 which I feel is solid here, at least for the food. The presentation was nice , nothing special, although I could tell there was effort put into trying to make it look good.
The portion sizes were a little large if I'm being honest, but fair in value for price.
The taste was good, I had the Clam Chowder, the seasonal salad with blue cheese , a Turkey Club sandwich, and my wife had the Chicken Wings.
The Clam Chowder was nice in presentation and taste, very creamy ,a slight hint of cheddar perhaps on the back end. The salad was fine, although it felt like I wanted something else added to it, the Turkey Club was a standard Turkey Club but unfortunately wasn't the star of the dish, a nice aoli or sauce, and a side dill pickle would help here. The potatoes wedges in the middle of the plate were actually much better in presentation and taste than the sandwich which was disappointing.
The Chicken Wings (8) were well done but lacked a bit of sauce.
The decor of the restaurant was fine but I felt like it was a little dark. Also there was no one in the resturant which added to the depressing vibe.
The service itself was very prompt and the waiter was attentive to the table and came to check often (which as we were the only ones in the place I would expect that anyway) The only problem I had with the service staff was the content of their conversations.
It was hard not to hear the staff talking (which is fine as they had nothing else to do) but they were talking very close to us about patrons picking their noses and teeth and flicking it or wiping it around, talking about the content of tips, they should have moved their conversation else where as it was of effect to the perception of the resturant...
Read moreA very well put together restaurant with fun decor and a relaxed atmosphere. Prices a little high, but it's in a hotel so one expects that. The literal bug in my Cesar salad was unfortunate. What was more unfortunate was the member of the wait staff telling me confidently that the dying bug I had watched in horrified fascination crawl onto a crouton and expire was, in fact, a caraway seed. I insisted it was a bug and they took the crouton back to the kitchen presumably for closer inspection and came back and apologized. Too bad, as the salad pre-bug was actually delicious, ditto the clam chowder with smoked salmon.
Still gonna give this place a pass next time I'm in town though. Caraway seed lines don't come that smoothly...
