My mom visited me in Seattle this week for one of the first times in the seven years I've been here. I wanted to show her the best of the best. A La Mode is my go-to dessert place. They make the best key lime pie I've ever had in my entire life, and I am a conossieur, trust me. I thought I used to like cake more until I found this place. Usually because it's so popular I have to place an order for the whole pie to ensure it will be there for me. When I showed up to pick up my pie, the dude in front was mortified and realized there wasn't one left and I had prepaid. He offered me a pick of the pie in the display case, we chose Summer Peach - DELICIOUS, told me to email the general manager, and stamped the rest of my stamp cards for next time with a plethora of heartfelt apologies. I emailed Chris, the GM, when I got home last night.
This man, you guys. THIS MAN.
First thing this morning I got a call from Chris who was so apologetic and sweet and kind, I've been a huge fan and customer for a long time so I was thrilled and honored when he offered to !!hand deliver!! a key lime pie to me the same day. I've never had anyone go so far and above and beyond to correct a silly mistake. This could have been handled so many ways and I really appreciate the grace with which it was handled, it really made me feel like I mattered as a customer.
10/5 stars for the pie 20/5 stars for the customer service
You guys rock. Keep making pies, I'll keep eating em, and I'll keep recommending you profusely. Truly a Seattle staple that has earned its place to be here permanently just as...
Read moreI REALLY wanted to give a 5 star review - we went to the Ballard location last week and were blown away by the customer service, the cleanliness of the restaurant and the amazing pie we had! I mean, I was dreaming about the Marionberry pie and we couldn't wait to go back. Today we decided to go to the Phinney Ridge location because the Ballard one opened later than our schedules allowed. As soon as we walked in the door there were boxes stacked to the ceiling, the lady working the counter did not greet us and seemed irritated when we asked her any questions. She was also not very knowledgeable about the menu. I asked for my pie to be warmed up and she said in a rude tone, The owner told me not to warm up the pies and I said Oh! The Ballard one just threw it in the microwave - do you not have a microwave? She said Yes we do but I am not warming it up. We like our pie warm, so this was a disappointment. Also, my cousin ordered a milkshake and we were almost done with our pie and she hadn't received her milkshake yet. She had to go up to the counter to ask if it was done yet. The lady was standing and drinking a drink and chatting it up with a gentleman who I assume is the owner. She didn't apologize for forgetting her milkshake in the blender and handed it to her. After reading other reviews, it seems like her attitude and lack of friendly customer service has been an issue for quite some time. It really ruined the experience for us. I really love the pie, but will not go back to this...
Read moreThis….hurts to review. My wife and I were HUGE fans of your pies, often driving up from Portland every couple of months for the delectable pies. We hadn’t been back since Covid (over a year) but recently went and was devastated at the change in quality. Why happened? New chefs? New recipes?! For one thing, every “slice” is already packed in plastic containers, which I get, for Covid precautions. But I think at the end of the day, all the condensation must build up because every pie we ordered was a soggy mess! Granted, we went closer to closing time but that shouldn’t be an excuse. These slices ain’t cheap, and savoring the “crust-y” crust is half the fun! Also, against my better judgment we ordered 2 new pies we don’t normally get, Oreo cookie -something and bourbon-pecan? something, but both were literally, a container full of whipped cream with little or no crust, almost indistinguishable besides the topping Oreo crumble or the pecan garnish. At over $6 each, these ain’t cheap. But the disappointment of driving 3hrs for something that reminds us of better times BEFORE Covid, this was such a let-down. We were such fans, we’ve recommended you guys to every visitor coming through Seattle airport, even driving friends back up to Sea-Tac so we had a reason to stop by for pie. We’ve even considered catering our wedding with a la mode pies instead of cake. But man,….what happened???? I almost left 1 star but it’s been amazing to us before, and never wrote a Review...
