I was so excited to go to Roy’s after reading all the great reviews. We had a reservation at 7:30pm on Saturday night and were seated at 7:30 so all seemed good, sat at the table for 20 minutes and no one came over not even to take a drinks order. We then had to get the attention of one of the servers. When they finally came over and we were placing our orders , all the dishes we wanted were not available , the ones that people had called out and we really wanted to try. Eventually we found some dishes that were available and ordered. Only one of our appetizers came out and our main courses came out one at a time with a few minute gap between each. One dish did not come out at all and so we asked about and were told the kitchen is closed , so we said but we had already ordered it. We did finally get that dish , about 15 minutes after everyone else’s meals had come out and about 1h 15 after we had first placed our order, the food overall was good but with so many items not being available and the incredibly poor service , it was incredibly hard to enjoy a place , that we had really been looking forward to. This southern Thai inspired restaurant is family run with the mom and sister being 2 of the chefs creating the dishes. The brother is the manager of this and 2 other restaurants that the 3 of them hop between.
The food here is delicious and unique.
If you like Pad Thai, this place has the southern style that is cooked with coconut milk and tamarind sauce! This is my new favorite pad Thai spot. I also highly recommend both the Karee puffs and the beef bhuna.
They also offer a variety of drinks that pair well with the food. If you’re looking for a new favorite, I loved the umeshu and the mango mojito.
The woodland park zoo is a walkable distance away so if you and your family are looking for an affordable and tasty spot, this...
Read moreRoy is a new Thai place in the same spot on Phinney Ridge as another Thai place that we never visited. This weekend we decided to stop in for lunch and it was a delicious treat! We had the (gluten free) fried chicken appetizer—it had a nice crunchy skin with a hint of lemongrass. It was juicy and flavorful with a large enough portion for the two of us. We also had the chicken satay appetizer that was amazing. Lastly, we shared the pad Thai (served with tofu). Often places make this overly sweet, but not here. Similar to the appetizers, it had a balance of flavors and was truly delicious. The staff was friendly and the space is colorful and inviting. The only complaint is that the windows are tinted so it’s hard to know when it’s open (but the do have a neon sign). We suggested a sandwich board to capture folks like us walking by. It’s a great new spot and a place we will...
