I love this place because their baked goods are ten stars, and the coffee is usually good.
I'm docking a star for some customer service stuff, as follows:
The manager insists on making customers who bring their own mugs pour the coffee from a ceramic mug into their own mug over a trash can. She insists this is more sanitary, saves work, and that all the coffee shops are doing it. I frequent at least ten such establishments around Ballard and have never once seen this. To me (I do have an MD) it seems to offer no sanitation benefit (vs pouring from their carafe into the mug), wastes time/energy/money having to wash and handle ceramic mugs, and creates an awkward, messy, and confusing task for customers to perform, sloshing coffee from a mug into their mug over a trash can.
We had another barista who, despite our request for extra-hot lattes, gave us both bathwater-warm-at-most lattes. I reached out to them on fbm just to mention that this barista might need some training tips. I received no reply. No biggie but... you can see why the customer service aspect warrants a...
Read moreAnchorship Coffee is a staple in the Ballard neighborhood, and I've been coming here for years. One of my favorite things, especially in the summer, is their coffee slushy—it’s absolutely amazing. I’m not usually a fan of cold coffee, but this has definitely changed my perspective.
The staff is generally friendly, though some are more personable than others. I actually like that diversity in energy, though. Growing up in Ballard, which was once a neighborhood full of sailors and had a rougher edge, the staff here often reminds me of that nostalgic old Ballard feeling. That’s not to say they’re rude, quite the opposite. There's just a certain charm in the way they interact that reminds me of the area’s past.
My only complaint is that the prices have risen significantly. An 8oz latte with a pastry or other baked good can run up to $12 before tip, which feels a bit steeper than other spots in the neighborhood. Thus, I've gone from once a week here to about once a...
Read more3.5 stars actually. Here’s why:
Good enough espresso, but
no options to get your coffee drink in a porcelain cup to drink there. Instead it’s all to go cups that end up in the landfill. Bummer.
menu doesn’t have prices on them. You don’t know the cost of what you’re ordering until you get the iPad flipped in your direction requesting a 25% tip. 2 cortados and a cookie? $15.50 out the door. meh
The extra half star because the coffee was good. Oh, and if you’re into bottles of wine that are $30-40, you may really dig this place.
This place is cute however, the upstairs nook seems rad, but if you are able to offer your coffees served in porcelain cups for there, your classiness level goes up, the middle finger to the earth goes down, and you get more stars on google. and for f sake, tell us what things cost...
