Needed a place nearby to meet a classmate where I can also have dessert while waiting so decided to come here instead of the cafe across the street. It was a good choice for me.

The place was relatively quiet even with several tables occupied and BTS music softly piped in.

I ordered Chicken Karaage (because I love fried chicken!) and the two main desserts. It was another winning choice, ding, ding, ding!

Love it when I eat out or visit a new place and not get disappointed =)

The staff was fast and friendly (its family owned and operated), the dining area clean. Note that the chairs and benches are wood with no cushions (just in case your backside needs support).

The karaage was really good. Crispy and flavorful, in small bites and big enough to share. The accompanying Japanese mayo dip has a little heat to it, perfect foil to the greasiness of the dish.

The desserts I ordered looked and tasted good. They were plated so prettily that you'd think you were in a fine dining restaurant - not a casual place mainly serving poke. As is typical of East Asian sweets/pastries, these two beauties were not too sweet which I prefer. And anything green tea flavored or infused, I'm in!

Go there asap to try it yourselves, you'll be happy diners...

Great quality food, bad quality service.

I wish there were a way to give a 2.5 instead of 2 or 3, even. There is virtually no problem I have with the food served at Beyond the Bowl. It is delicious, if a little hefty on the price side. The fish quality is good and the veggies all taste great. That would be even better if I had gotten what I ordered, when I ordered it.

I asked at ordering if I could have my bowl half rice and half mixed-veggies, to which the server replied that I could. We also ordered their JFC (great name for Japanese Fried Chicken) to start, and I watched the server write this down.

I did not receive my half-and-half bowl. When I let the server know, they happily gave me a side salad bowl. Our fried chicken was also delayed. We reminded the server that we ordered the JFC, and when it came much later, our poke bowls were almost finished.

To reiterate, I liked the food here. The rest of my experience was great. I just wish the service had been a little more attentive to our table. I realize it was probably a busy service and orders can get lost in the kitchen, and I'll be happy to give them...

Disappointing dinner tonight. We have not been here since it’s been under new management. We ordered the Niku udon like normal. However it has completely changed.

We were used to having the udon with beef, green onion, mushrooms, pickled ginger and a soft boiled marinated egg. Instead we got a more soupy udon that had corn?? Seaweed?? (That was also almost half of the bowl). Barely any green onion, no pickled ginger, and a half of a hard boiled egg. The beef texture was an improvement, not as fatty, but the marinade was sweet? Almost like a teriyaki? It over powered the broth. I unfortunately could not finish it between the sweetness and the chewy seaweed. See photos for the differences.

We drive 20 minutes to have this udon but we were not made aware they were under new management. No updates online, their photos for the udon are the original udon not the new one.

Will say we did order the dragon roll(new item) and it was pretty good. Maybe this udon is someone else’s cup of tea but again disappointed the recipe has changed. Staff was very nice...

It seems they did not improve their house udon from another reviewer’s disappointment after new ownership. I wanted to give it a try as my daughter enjoys udon - but for $16 a bowl we would’ve been more satiated with a bowl of pho next door with beef we can actually chew (it was very tough) and better broth (also found too sweet - just keep the sweetness to all that corn). The seaweed was also tough to eat. The Cali roll was a small portion and small pieces and average in quality - I would’ve been happier from a decent grocery store’s sushi section. We were the only other duo in the restaurant and we were never checked in on during the long wait for food nor after we got our food. The staff seemed more occupied with to go orders. The only saving grace from our visit was the mango shake it was delicious and comparably priced at $7 for Seattle. Perhaps poke is the way to go here but then maybe just stick with what you’re good at. Won’t be worth the dodgy street parking here to return.
