Overall, there is a variety of selections at center table. There is food for pretty much anyone. Behold as I will individually critique each separate restaurant:
Seared - The food is top tier. Their smokestack is the greatest burger I've ever had. The juiciness and tenderness of the beef combined with the tangy BBQ sauce creates a chemical reaction in your mouth. The curly fries are always a must - super curly. Other items such as the Chicken Sammie are great alternatives if for whatever reason you did not order a smokestack.
Market Deli - This place is bomb. Some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Can compete with industry giants such as Subway and Jimmy Johns. The only downside is that it is so good that everyone wants a sandwich, causing a long line. If you go during non-peak hours, this is not a concern.
Salad Bar - Now not everyone is a salad fan. But when it is 12pm on a Tuesday and every restaurant is backed up with lines of up to 30 minutes, the salad bar is a tempting choice. There is almost never a line because of the self-serve nature of the bar. They also offer chicken, making your salad filled with food from every food group. A nice nutritious meal that gets more enticing the busier it is.
Quench - Where should I start with Quench? There is so much to talk about. Now I have never been but I will soon. I imagine it is very similar to the other cafes around campus. What makes this one unique? It's called Quench. Can't think of a better reason to try it out! When you're thirsty nothing's better than Quench!
Plate - This is a hit or miss. I've heard the chimichurri sauce is to die for. But other than that, the chicken and salmon is dry. Plate is probably what you imagine when you think of dining hall food.
Noodle - Not too bad asian food. Not a first choice but not a bad choice. Like plate, it is pretty mid dining hall food.
Pagliacci Pizza - Very typical Pagliacci pizza. It's pizza man, you can't go wrong.
Select - Don't go here.
Global - I have never seen this place. It is listed on the Center Table...
Read moreThey do not update their menus according to demands. There are some occasional decent dishes from Select and rarely from Plate but most meals taste dreadful. Apart from not being properly seasoned, single ingredients can be found in multiple dishes which poses a great frustration to people who have allergies: they run out of options and will have to get the greasy burgers. If you are a bodybuilder or just a person who's specifically found of protein, you are in grave trouble because anything contains proteins is so overpriced. Chicken breast is normally so undercooked that tastes like ice inside and rubber outside. If you want to eat healthy, you are also in bad luck since only the fast food places (Dub Street and Pizza) open on weekends. Breakfast in general is super unhealthy. The most popular item, Husky Combo, contains a choice of processed meat, 2 deep-fried hash brown patties, and scrambled eggs, arguably the only healthy kind. Milk machines break often and will totally ruin your day if you enjoy having your food with your favorite cup of milk and sees an "out-of-order" sign on the machine. Sanitary condition was a huge issue before the pandemic: cups and cutlery were washed poorly. Make sure to look out for residue and left-over grease. Take disposable ones if you can. (Sorry, animal lovers.) They did a decent job during the pandemic, though. Things looked pretty clean and neat. Bring your own mugs if you want dilute coffee and hot water for free. However, keep in mind Center Table is a dining hall at a ginormous public university, and food is not the most important factor here. Instead, one enjoys dinner time with groups of friends, the laughters, checking hot people out and being checked out. It's also a good place for those who enjoy studying with noises. Grinding on a 2000 word essay late the night before it's due at my favorite table next to Quench. Ah, I miss the...
Read moreI ate here during a conference. For dinner on the weekends they only had one station serving food and they would run out of the main dishes half way through their dinner hours. So you were paying $15 for four combinations of rice and beans. Even during the week they would close stations for dinner leaving you with only a few options. I ended up eating at the salad bar most nights, which was okay, until they inevitably ran out of the salad dressings I liked.
When they did have a nice food option they wouldn't let you have very much. You had to go back through the line again and survive the dirty looks from the servers.
And they were supposed to open at 5pm. But they were rarely ready at 5pm. Usually we had to wait a few minutes for someone to come swipe our cards. And even then the workers weren't at their stations to serve food. One day I got to the station I wanted to try and when the girl finally got there her manager was trying to give her instructions while she stored her bag under the food counter. She was distracted by him and ended up putting her gloves on before she was ready. So then she tucked in her shirt, fixed her hair, and rummaged through her bag again, all with the gloves on. And then she started serving my food, without even...
