Attended the sold out Anita Hill talk and was very impressed with the staff. Tickets for this event ended up selling out very quickly and I was unable to get one, however, they included information about standby tickets which asked folks to show up at least 30 mins before the event. I arrived at 6:45 and there were already 50 people in line. UW students/staff were having people write down their payment information in case there was room for them to attend. They were super kind and patient. The line endes up growing to what appeared to be roughly 100 people in standby, and they got all of us signed up in a timely manner. As it ended up, I believe all of us were able to make it in and we sat in the balcony which gave a great view of the stage. As a anti-sexual.and relationship violence activist amd survivor.this event meant the world to me and the theatre director, who I was able to speak with after the event let me write a thank you note to Christine Blasey Ford who had surprised the audience by introducing Dr.Hill. The director brought the note back to her and was kind enough to update me afterwards amd share that she had read it in front of them and was very touched by it. The student staff who I had met while filling out my payment.before the event was equally amazing and said that if I didnt make it into the event that I should find her and see what strings she could pull since this is my field of.work. Overall, I was.extremely.impressed with how the event was organized.and look forears to attending more...
Read moreFirst of all, who wants to be bombarded with political opinions and viewpoints, when you travel to a chamber music concert? Posters and political documents everywhere! Even at the will-call booth. When I asked about the posters, I was told to take it up with the school's administration .
Secondly, why all of the mask necessity? The mask police and Karens we're out in full force! I removed my mask to place a cough drop in my mouth, and the Karen in front of me wigged out, summoned an usher and basically created a scene. In the meantime, I put my mask back on, enjoying my Fishermans Friend cough drop. Two Karens behind and to the right of me said, "don't worry, we'll watch him" to the first Karen! And the usher stated " sir your mask must be worn at all times during the performance ". What performance? Intermission just started.
Third, the sound and lighting was horrible for a chamber concert. So disappointed! Won't travel to Seattle, the University of Washington for any concerts or provide financial support!
Oh, did I mention the two women who entered the men's restroom because there was a line outside of the...
Read moreGreat acoustics and quite a lovely season of performances here this year---at more affordable ticket prices than Benaroya. You may find the cushions available in the lobby for borrowing during the concert to help the comfort level of Meany's theatre-style seats. Park in the garage below the hall--it's worth the cost, as parking in the U-district is hard to find. However, be sure to note well floor and direction where you parked, as the garage is a labyrinth and easy to get lost in. Our first time there, we spent 45 minutes after the concert wandering the garage trying to find our car! In recent years I've subscribed to the President's Piano Series and the Chamber Music Series, and found both to be excellent, varied, and well worth your time...
