Pleasantly surprised. A former Chi Town resident, I went searching this weekend for a legit deep-dish pizza. After some research, looking at the local competition, and reviewing the pics online from customers, I decided to try this establishment out. A 1.5 hr. drive just to get there, I was hoping for the best, but potentially expecting the worst. The following just pertains to my take out order. The restaurant is located within an outdoor mall. I didn't search for long before I found a free parking spot. I liked how the menu was located outside in case there was a long line. Also liked how there was outside, as well as inside seating. Although there were many customers eating inside, I was promptly greeting and quickly able to place my order. I did ask about the difference between the deep dish and stuffed pizzas. If you're looking for the classic chi town version, remember to order the stuffed version. I was given clear expectations on the bake time of 30 to 40 min. Made sense considering thickness. I didn't take the complaints on the review section regarding this seriously because I'm familiar with the process from other similar businesses. I went walking around to explore for a bit, and returned to pick up my order; which was completed ahead of time. Cost for my 12" stuffed classic pie with spinach was $39.91.Yes, pricey for 1 pizza, but keeping in mind that prices everywhere have gone up. It's not unusual to see this, and I'd say, based on experience, is competitive with other places I looked at prior to deciding on coming here. Drove the 1.5 hr. back, opened the box, and was impressed with the visual. Beautiful color and warm smell. Cut a piece out and warmed it up. At 30 seconds it held together very well; did not fall apart. Taste, wow. Sauce is fresh and not over powering. Spinach and cheese were nicely layered. Crust isn't oily and greasy. Overall, very impressed! Due to costs, I wouldn't necessarily dine here every weekend, but I could certainly see returning in the future to try another pie or dish. Well worth the trip, and again, pleasantly surprised....
Read moreFor tonight's date night shenanigans we landed ourselves in a corner at the University Village. Dinner was to be the ever so popular Summer hangout, Delfino's Chicago Style Pizza. Every summer their patio is full and nobody comes out without one of their pizza boxes. Finally on this cold night we were going to find out why. We arrived just in time to get a table of our choice by the window. Not even 10 minutes later the entire restaurant was full and they were seating people in their overflow back room. Leanne was our host and server. Service with a smile is what we immediately received. When my hubby told her it was our first time she did not hesitate to give us a low down on how to decipher the menu. She was extremely informative and even answered my questions before I could even ask them. She never approached our table, or any other for that matter, without a genuine smile on her face. And we noticed that she was very attentive, but with respect to our needs. Excellent service indeed! Oh! But I guess I should touch on the food too, huh? Well, we ordered the small thin crust, half what they call CBR, i.e. Chicken-Bacon-Ranch, and the other half was their Traditional Vegetarian. Although the chicken pieces were big, the flavor was not so much. Overall, the pizza was just OK. Because it would take 10-15 minutes to bake, we decided to order Traditional Chicken Wings as well. Half was Italian and the other half was Buffalo. Again, not very flavorful, but the Italian rub was very peppery. Fortunately we ended our meal with a most delicious dessert, a deep dish baked apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was good and just enough to satisfy our sweet teeth. And of course my reviews are not complete without my input of the bathroom. There was only one so if you're in a hurry, don't be. As for cleanliness, it was a 8 out of 10. Overall, glad we finally went in the door. Will we return? Probably not. Many other restaurants at The U...
Read moreDelfino’s Chicago Style Pizza isn’t just good—it’s spectacular! Their traditional Chicago-style stuffed pizza is out-of-this-world fantastic. They’ve sourced the best of everything—sauce, cheese, toppings—and packed it into an incredible 2-inch-thick stuffed pizza that’s nothing short of perfection.
My wife and kids absolutely adore this place, and so does everyone I’ve ever taken here. We even order it for my workplace at least once a month, and guess what? EVERYONE LOVES IT!
I have friends from the Chicago area who are fanatical about this place, and there’s a reason why. This is authentic Chicago-style pizza that nails it every. single. time.
Now, be prepared to wait—the stuffed pizza takes at least 45 minutes to cook due to its thickness, but trust me, it’s worth every second.
Have I tried the other styles of pizza? Absolutely not! Why would I? This is why you come here! Don’t even think about ordering anything else—you’d be doing this masterpiece a disservice.
The only downside? Delfino’s occupies a relatively small space. While the location itself is great, there isn’t always enough seating, and the place can get a bit messy since there’s no traditional waitstaff or busboys. It’s more of a carry-out place with a few tables as an afterthought. If they expanded and added more seating with dedicated staff, they’d have a money-making machine on their hands.
In short, try the STUFFED PIZZA! I swear, any bad reviews are from people who didn’t know what to order. They probably went with a lesser item—total user error!
While waiting for my pizza, I’ve tried the Italian Meatballs, Pizza Bread, and Garlic Bread appetizers—all very good and perfect to tide you over...
