Of all the places to indulge in Seattle's iconic seafood, our visit to Emerald City Fish & Chips today was nothing short of a revelation. We opted for the Sample Platter—a generous spread with Alaskan cod, halibut, catfish, salmon, shrimp, crab cake and a side of thick cut crispy fries. While each item had its merits, one stood out so dramatically that it transformed the entire meal into an unforgettable experience: the catfish.
I’ve had catfish before, but never like this. The batter was whisper-thin and crispy providing the perfect textural contrast to what lay within: tender, almost gelatinously smooth fish that flaked apart at the slightest pressure. Each bite released a burst of moisture, as though the fish had been locked in its own delicate broth. It was so good, so soulfully delicious, that we immediately ordered an additional five pieces of catfish at $18.95 (plus tax)—and devoured all within 2 seconds.
We also tried their gumbo, and it deserves a shoutout: deeply flavored, loaded with ingredients, and perfectly spiced. It’s the kind of bowl that comforts and excites at the same time.
Emerald City Fish & Chips isn’t just serving food—they’re crafting Rainier Valley life. If you go, do not miss the catfish. It’s nothing less than a...
Read moreI’ve been here twice now with a friend and we loved it. We agreed this is going to be a regular spot for us. Very friendly owner and staff. My favorite item on the menu so far is the salmon chowder. It’s the most flavorful and so delicious! I have also tried the cod fish and chips, the cod burger, Cole slaw, and the sweet potato pie.
I loved how tasty and well made the French fries were. The fish was fresh and crispy, although I personally wish there would have been a little more seasoning/added flavor in the batter or on the fish. The sauces paired really nicely with all the food and definitely gave the fish all the flavor it needed if you need that too! The Cole slaw was the freshest I’ve had and wasn’t too sweet or too heavy on the mayo. Lastly, their sweet tea is always perfect!
Their parking is off to the side of the restaurant and is on the tighter side, but still doable. There was also accessible parking for anyone...
Read moreOmg I have no idea why ppl like this place. The food is not even palatable. We ordered 3 piece halibut and chips, 6 piece pups and chips. The halibut was so over cooked and dry it was chewy. Terrible. Its questionable that it is even halibut. The pups were over cooked and dry as well. The chips were just ok. Coleslaw was dry. We couldn't even eat the mess and tossed it out. Fish is supposed to be moist and flaky. We've even had frozen fish sticks that were much better. We had to cook something else to take the bad taste out of our mouths. What a waste of money. The one good thing was the very friendly and nice lady at the counter. Save your money and palate and go somewhere else. I'm guessing that all the positive reviews are fake. Ppl can't possibly like this overcooked rubber fish. It seems that the restaurant actually reads the reviews but has put no effort in correcting the issues of overcooked food. Gee...
