Normally this is a great neighborhood tap house, and bonus points for being dog- and family-friendly. However lately it feels like HCTH has become more of a playground for children, including parents that don't have an interest in controlling their kids.
It's one thing to be kid-friendly and allow children to be at the table with their parents. And 100% bring games or things for them to do, as a father I'm supportive. But it's another thing to bring half of the toy chest, a complete change of outfit, and an entire picnic basket to the bar and litter the entire place with all of the kid's play things, nevermind take more tables than you need.
I can imagine that this has to be somewhat tough to manage if you're the Tap House management (who are amazing, thank you), but please get a hold of the environment. For other parents looking for a watering hold, there are plenty of other options nearby (incl. NW Peaks and Flying Lion) that are family-friendly but not as wild as what the Hill City Tap...
Read moreToo many kids running around uncontrolled...this has been true on multiple visits, which gives me the sense its encouraged. I'm not the type who brings kids to bars, but if you are going to, at least keep them from ruining in front of peeps looking for beers at the cooler. The cooler itself isn't really impressive for a place with bottle in it's name. I mean, it's an OK selection but Safeway and QFC have most of those bottles. There's a pretty good selection of cans, but for some reason (beyond my ken) you must buy six packs of craft cans...no singles allowed for purchase (also like Safeway and QFC). That being said, staff is friendly and knowledgeable, not sure the owner is quite with the zeitgeist for craft beer. Why no purchasing singles? I'm never gonna buy a 6-pack of craft beer I've never heard of, might buy a single can from a few of them though to try and then come by later for a...
Read moreI like this place a lot, but I have issues with some of the other clientele. There's a kid play place in the back, so fair enough, expect children here. But, some of the parents who come absolutely ignore the negative impact of their children's behavior on the other customers. I've been here with kids literally running around and screaming, treating the tables and chairs like obstacle course (and meanwhile the parents did nothing to stop or control their unruly kids). There's definitely people taking advantage of this business's hospitality and treat it like their personal living room/entertainment space, to the detriment of all the other customers. I'd like to encourage Hillman city tap/bottle to empower their employees to require appropriate behavior from ALL guests and build and expectation for parents to watch their kids. This is a business, not an...
