Oh, where to begin — first off, this place is about as close to perfect as I think you can get. It has: Delicious coffee — it’s what you came for, right? Sourcing excellent coffees from small farms and roasters around the world, the espresso here hasn’t disappointed me yet. Nor has the pourover. And if you want to get wild, they usually have a seasonal on the menu that’ll take you out of your comfort zone. The drink that did it for me was their watermelon iced americano. A unique, but great, coffee drink! If you just want something standard, their housemade vanilla syrup makes a fantastic vanilla latte too. Note that the coffee (and food/tea) menu is pretty narrow; they stick to what they do well and only that — this isn’t a major cafe operation, which I like. Lovely owners — the duo running this place are so friendly and super into coffee. Watching them put so much heart into this spot is awesome, and they seem to be having a good time. The coolest vibe — whether it’s the charm of the space which is vaguely retro cool, the many plants inside, or better yet, owner Rachel’s hand-thrown pottery creations (in which all hot drinks are served, and some of which are available for purchase), this space is one of the city’s most beautiful and hip.
It can get busy in here, and the place is small, so you might wait a bit. I just always come with a friend and then I don’t even notice. They also don’t have much of a food menu, but that matters little to me given the many, many options in the surrounding downtown Ballard area.
All in all, Homage is fast-becoming my top choice for...
Read moreThis shop is the perfect example of what we need more of in Seattle. They serve some of the best medium-light roast coffees in the world from roasters including Sey, Ilse and La Cabra. Those coffees are meticulously dialed in each day by one of the owners, Clinton, to ensure each extraction throughout the day is perfect, and if you get their drinks to consume in the cafe they're served in ceramics made by the other owner, Rachel. The shop is modern and bright without feeling trendy and dull, and has extra seating the owners added to the shop making it feel more inviting and encouraging to stay. They serve pastries from Sea Wolf made fresh everyday, which just happens to be one of my favorite Seattle bakeries. The owners are always friendly and excited to talk, providing wonderful service, which gets me excited to be a regular...
