Macrina is a sweet spot in an unlikely place. You would almost miss it because the inside is a little dim from the street. Remember when you had time to take a walk, time to go to a special bakery, time to savor those memories, moments and tasty treats, whether by yourself or with others? Remember when you could taste the time, care and quality put into baked goods and the places that made a cup of coffee that you would unquestionably finish while sipping slowly to make the moment last? Macrina gave those times/memories back to me, very simply. Street parking made the stop easy. There is a parking lot on the left side of Macrina, look for signs regarding parking limits. The inside is clean and restroom open (challenging amidst Covid) and ceiling high as though it’s risen with ideas and conversations. I gave 4 stars because I wish they had more for lunch and it’s a little pricey (although fairly average for the quality and PNW) and sandwiches are prepared off site not allowing additions (ie: extra turkey) and well...having artisan bread you must go for extra turkey gusto! It was the end of the day and their sweet baked sliced loaves and treats were not dry...much gratitude for that goodness. The latte held more than its own and took me back to when businesses were bustling and we had time to take it in and think, dream and be. My latte...the espresso was smooth, vanilla slightly sweet and no bitterness or anything artificial tasting~blissful sipping on a Saturday. The chocolate drizzled loaf, I will return, to re-meet! They were personable, friendly, knowledgeable and understand that having a place to gather, a warm cup, tasty treat and smiling face it’s all it takes, even if for a mere moment to reminisce and make a new memory. It’s the simple things...and they did good.

I'm a bit of a bakery connoisseur. I visit at least one bakery in every city I visit. My wife, son and I went into Macrina bakery before a Mariners game as it's only a few blocks from the stad. We found it using google. My wife and I shared a Verdura sandwich and my son had the brioche ham, egg and cheese sandwich. Both were VERY good. I didn't realize that the Verdura sandwich was meatless, but once I tried it, I was not disappointed! For dessert we shared the blueberry cheesecake. It was creamy and flavorful. The blueberries were ripe and topped off the cheesecake beautifully. We had an iced mocha as well. The barista who crafted it did a masterful job. The espresso was smooth and not acidic at all. She added the perfect amount of chocolate so it wasn't too sweet. All that having been said, some of the staff were not as inviting as we would have expected. We arrived 15 minutes before they closed and one of the guys behind the counter was reluctant to allow us to order it to eat there. He wanted us to get it to-go. I assured him we would eat quickly and we were allowed to eat inside but it was made clear that we had to be out by 6pm. Although the food was excellent, I was inclined to leave 4 stars but as a fellow restaurant owner, I realize that the owner of Macrina bakery likely isn't aware of the staff pushing customers out right before close. I will definitely return I would recommend the owner remind the staff that most restaurants will allow their customers a few minutes after closing time to finish their meal.

I stopped by to pickup lunch the other day and got the “carne” sandwich, toasted. It had Turkey, Swiss, pesto, and I held the tomato. Overall it was okay - it did not taste like a $10 sandwich. The bread nicely toasted, but the inside was lukewarm. I love Macrina Bakery’s breads but I was disappointed in the sandwich. My husband ordered the bagel sandwich and he felt the same about his selection. I’ve never had Macrina Bakery’s bagels before, so I’m not sure how chewy they normally are, but his sandwich was really hard to eat because the bagel was SO chewy. If I happen to be in the area and go to Macrina Bakery again for lunch, I would be willing to try something else on their menu, but I won’t be making any special trips for their sandwiches.

This is my second time here. Unfortunately, I was in the area and had a few minutes to spare. I went in to buy four treats for others and possibly something for myself. They were a lot of people standing around in an unclear line. Not sure how busy they normally are but after I finally was able to look at the options for baked sweets, I wasn't sure where the line formed. The person in front of me was incredibly needy, asking about all the ingredients in everything she bought. Then another person, who apparently was before that person but went off somewhere else, needed to clarify the menu as well. I didn't get anything for myself because there were no vegan options (for some weird reason, I thought they were a famous bakery with vegan options) and the lady who put the four sweets into the bag was nice enough. The cashier was nice enough also. There's just way too many people standing around taking forever to pick out what they want and taking a very long time to pay. The line that ended up forming was right in front of the display case which doesn't seem like a good idea to me. The four sweets ended up being $20, which in my mind is simply outrageous, but I'm sure the four people will say they enjoy it. The nice-enough employees make this a 3-star review. I do not plan on returning in the future. I will take my non-vegan business elsewhere. (If there's that many people, I guess others must think of highly of...
