Had heard positive things and wanted to give it a try but was disappointed with the meal and service.

It began with our party of three being told we could not dine at the table of four setting at the near empty restaurant and we could only get in at the bar. OK, no problem, perhaps there are reservations.

We ordered apps, drinks and entrees. While waiting on food there is billowing smoke coming from the kitchen to which upsets my asthma and burns my eyes. The staff eventually notice and open the door to air out.

Our order consists of hush puppies, burgers, coconut greens, crab mac, and drinks. The hush puppies where cooked like they were caramelized served black and hard with a soft inside. As if they were fried too hot and fast and they tasted burnt. With a dark dipping sauce. Coconut greens tasted as though they were cooked in coconut milk only without other spices. Could have been enhanced with spices and the temperature wasn't hot upon being served. Crab mac was hot on top and ice cold on the bottom. The burgers in the party were cooked to two different temperatures. Neither was asked what temp they wanted yet one was served medium and the other was raw.

At one point, someone in my party was asked to grab a glass for a server from the bar as if we were the help!! Very atrocious on customer service and the number of things went wrong means I won't be back anytime soon.

It could have just a bad night and hope for a better experience if I...

After reading the reviews I was very excited to try Marjorie, and was extremely disappointed by the entire experience. The service was lacking to begin with, but, having worked in restaurants extensively I tried to reserve judgement. The first round of cocktails were undrinkable, which the bartender apologized for and explained he hated the cocktails we ordered... the waitress was so hard to track down every drink after the first had to be ordered at the bar.

The appetizers came in a timely manner but the entrees took over an hour to arrive. Two shared apps for the table and one main for three people took nearly 3 hours. The waitress never offered any explanation or checked in on the table at all.

The duck was stone cold when it arrived and the chicken accompaniments were too spicy to eat (and I like spice). The atmosphere was lovely - but not nearly enough to make up for poor food and service.

Will not go back, and would...

Like a phoenix from the ashes Marjorie is back and better than ever! I have followed Marjorie through all its locations and iterations, and I am so happy to have it back. The new location is wonderful, tucked off the street in a pedestrian courtyard. The interior is cozy urban chic combined with a “Cheers, where everybody knows your name” neighborhood warmth. The outdoor seating is comfortable and elegant. We had several dishes; all were flavorful and beautifully presented. A standout was the heirloom tomato salad served over a mushroom paste and garnished with peanuts. The tomato was perfectly ripe – unripe tomato is a peeve of mine - and the mushrooms and peanuts added an earthy flavor. It was fantastic. Also be sure to save room for dessert – I had the lychee and (very) ginger sorbet. Marjorie is the kind of place you can pop in for a casual nibble at the bar, and elegant enough for a...

Interesting eclectic place. The portions and the flavors are fine dining, but the atmosphere is a neat casual one. Out of the very compact menu, we ordered the bruschettas as appetizers, and the chicken and the salmon as main courses. Unfortunately, the bruschettas arrived with the entrées, for which we had to wait a good while. Nevertheless, they were delicious. The main courses were both quite small, but with very well-balanced sumptuous flavors. The only disappointment was the salmon being overcooked. The relaxed atmosphere lends itself to people being quite loud, which throws the fine dining vibes in the food off. We spent $100 for two people, and we didn't eat much. This place has a lot of potential to be realized by buttoning up a few things.

Marjorie was a delightful dinner on a Tuesday night with friends and one of my favorite meals in the neighborhood. First off - the space inside is well decorated, inviting, and much more open feeling than I expected. Next, the service was phenomenal despite I think there only being 1 wait staff on a Tuesday. He was fast, helpful, and incredibly upbeat. The menu wasn't massive, but all the options seemed quite interesting. Unfortunately they were out of all Jerk entrees so we had to settle for our second tier picks, but even still everything we received ranged from good to outstanding (get the hush puppies!) Drinks were solid as well and the bar was much larger than I had thought it would be. Absolutely will be back!

This was hands down the best dinner my spouse and I have had yet! Not only did Rich and Donna introduce themselves to us and share about their story, but the food was mouth watering. I am still dreaming of the dessert (that we bought twice). My husband and I like to rate restaurants based on food, service, atmosphere, chairs, and more. Out of hundreds that we’ve visited, this is easily our top favorite new restaurant. I almost don’t want to post because I want this to ourselves. But Donna and the team deserve all the best. Highly recommend the oxtail, Mac and cheese, peanut butter chocolate dessert, and cocktail pairings! For my plus size folks, chairs were armless, sturdy and comfortable. Love this place!!
