I went to Mission Cantina for happy hour and got a few [street] tacos ($2.50 each) -- the pork, chicken, beef, and fish. I also had the chips with pico ($2). The ambiance in this place is cute even with Antonio Banderas staring at you in the bathroom, and the tacos are, overall, pretty darn good. The chicken in particular had a good deal of flavor, which surprised me. The beef had lots of flavor, but it was mostly from the sauce. The fish was probably the winner though if you like fishy fish -- one of the best fish tacos I've had. Unfortunately, the pork did not shine at all; other than the pickled onion on top, it was bland as bland can be... Skip it! Unless you don't mind dousing it with hot sauce. And not having your water filled while your mouth burns (yeah, service is inattentive). I would not have gotten myself in this tongue-burning situation if they had a salsa bar, or just salsa, but they don't. The waitress did offer to bring more pico -- for $2, but that's just sheisty, particularly when the first dose of pico was decent but not fresh (saggy tomatoes) and served with stale, unsalted chips.
Bottom line: The tacos are (mostly) yummy, but beware they have no salsa (which matters for the pork taco). And, well, if it's not clear already, skip the chips, as they are stale and bland and should...

This was my second trip because--I guess due to sheer luck, my first time was a Taco Tuesday and they weren't bad
Second trip around though... the food was mediocre at best.
I ordered a burrito classico with the ghost pepper cheese on a whim because I was in the mood for something spicier. What I got was something that tasted like the stuff they squirt on "nachos" at a ballgame or a convenient mart, only less spicy.
Maybe it was an off night, maybe I'm just spoiled by good Mexican food from southern California but both of us were extremely underwhelmed by the quality of our food. Everything was bland or poorly flavored. From all the talk of "San Diego's Roberto taco shop" on the menu and whatever, I expected something more than the 'catering to the Chipotle crowd' mess that we got.
West Seattle is sorely lacking in the Mexican food department. Our best luck has been a food truck down in the Andolyne district. Everything else has been hit-or-miss or just plain bad. Mission Cantina definitely falls under the...
Read moreMission Cantina is well worth the money, every time. Before COVID, we used to adore going for their happy hour specials (genuine food offerings not little morsels you get at other places) and we're always pleased. The decor is fun, the atmosphere is cozy, and the staff are amazing.
Now, during Covid, they are offering takeout and delivery which is really nice. We did takeout and I was super impressed - not only did they correctly handle an order with many adjustments to make it dairy free, but the service was impeccable. The waiter checked every single dish against the receipt to make sure everything was correct before packaging and sending it off.
Upon arriving home each order was the delicious, nuanced flavor we anticipate and perfectly correct. Our vegan friend felt that none of the flavor was lost and really enjoyed her meal.
We are always happy to support local businesses, and the care of the staff at Mission really can't be beat, especially when accompanied by top...
