Hi! Hate to leave a bad review somewhere but I'm a little bit confused about how this gym works.
I sometimes work out at Industrious Fitness nearby my house but I'd been looking for a full-time, more self-directed sort of gym. I really wanted to try out Anytime Fitness because it's pretty close to my house, so I decided to use their free 7-day trial from their website. I scheduled the tour and was all set to go this afternoon.
When I got there, a lady with long hair greeted me and had me sit down with her. She said to start the tour she wanted to ask about my life and my gym background. I explained that I spend some months in Hawaii, and I go to West Seattle's Industrious Gym but was looking for a more self-directed gym to switch to. She replied, "Because you've told me that, I can't let you use our 7-day trial, you'll have to pay." I was confused, but she said it was because a few months out of the year I am sometimes not living in West Seattle.
She asked if I was a Washington resident, I said yes, and she asked if I had a Washington ID, I said yes. She sort of squinted at me when I said I had a Washington ID and didn't say anything, so I asked if because I was a resident I could try out the gym this week to see whether or not I'd want to commit to a year membership. She said "No, I'm not going to let you bully me into giving you a free-trial." A bit strange?
This sort of surprised me, so I backtracked saying I was just a little confused on what kind of residents are allowed the free-trial? She just said "You're not getting a the trial. If you want to pay for the week, it'll be forty-dollars. It's my boss's rule, not mine." I asked about the price to just try it for the day so I could see if I wanted a membership, but she said I couldn't do a free trial for a day either (wasn't my question ) So I thanked her for her time, said it was all good, and left.
Maybe she'd thought I was trying to pull something on her to get a free week? Just a bit confused after having a Washington ID and explaining that I'm a resident that they'd deny me the free-trial? Maybe it's only certain types of residents that they decide are okay? Very confused by the situation, wish it had worked out, didn't love being called a...
Read moreFirst of all, explained upon my trial that I had just totalled my car and injured my ankle. Assured me that they aren't about taking money from people that don't use their services. Tried to cancel, denied. Tried to set up a one on one ... got a call to arrive a half hour early because the trainer had a personal obligation to tend to... wth? Tried to reason with the owner, useless. When confronted with his own words, we are not about taking money from people that don't use the service, he responded in a sarcastic and offensive tone that I hold privy for my 5 year old. Upon my credit cards getting hacked and forgetting to update information with them ABC Financial sends threatening emails to my work email address and charges me 9 dollar late fee and 20 dollar service fee. haven't reviewed the contract but pretty sure there is no disclaimer for a third party billing agent. i rolled over earlier in the year because i was dealing with lawyers and doctors already due to the car crash, but am gearing up to do battle because I refuse to just let them take my money. luckily the owners aren't ever there when i get off my shift at the hospital... which is when i go to use the facility... or i'd truly be letting the money go up in smoke. on top of it, the shower curtains are moldy, and bathrooms smell and the facility is tiny with no ventilation or amenities. Would not recommend to a friend ... or family member, or clergyman, or barista, or bus driver, or grocery checker, or teacher, or......
Read moreI have so many good things to say about this place (been going there for over 5 years now), but I'll be concise. Of all the gyms I've been to (aside from my university's gyms, which were the bomb), this is my favorite. It's not huge, and it doesn't need to be. I don't need a gym that's flashy and has bulky personal trainers - I just need a large free weight area, a reasonable sized stretching area, and some cardio equipment. As an added bonus, there's a great class room complete with a projection system for video classes that you can use when there's no an in-person class going on. They keep this place extremely clean (obviously important in a gym, especially due to COVID), the staff is very involved and very nice, I never felt pressured (even to join, I was really the one driving things actually), and - lo and behold - they actually circulate the air. It's startling how few gyms understand the importance of circulating air around their gym (maybe COVID has pushed more gyms to change this). A little more expensive than the bigger chain gyms, and this location is better than the other Anytime Fitnesses I've been to in other states and countries, but I'd still say it's totally worth it. There's a small maintenance fee charged twice a year that goes to new equipment, and I've been really happy with their purchases, including a Jacob's Ladder...
