Muddy Waters Coffee Co — Restaurant in Seattle

Update: Changed stars because it’s been four days now and I’m still in pain from the blisters. There is no reason the drink should have been served that hot!

Ordered a caramel apple cider here yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately, it was served way, way too hot! Took one sip and my body just instantly spat it back out; it wasn’t just “oops, bit too hot,” it was “oh god, ouch, get it out right now!” Instant, visible blistering all over my tongue and the roof of my mouth that is still painful the next morning. It took at least 30 minutes for it to finally cool down enough to drink normally (albeit very, very carefully) and by then my tongue was too blistered to really taste anything.

I understand that clear liquids like apple cider tend to heat way faster and more intensely than milk-based beverages, but they really need to be more careful. Even accidentally spilling a bit on my hand caused instant reddening and pain that took over an hour to finally calm down; thankfully no blistering as that skin is thicker and less sensitive than the tongue, but still concerning.

I was also a bit confused that the menu doesn’t list prices? But at least they have a visible menu; the last several times I walked by, there was no visible...

First time so I guess I didn’t know the drill, but ordered an americano and was told after it was made that there is a $5 minimum for credit cards. There was a small paper stating as much but it’s barely visible among all the other posted things. Didn’t want a pastry or to buy two bottles of water so I just had them charge me for nothing.

I totally understand that credit card companies take an outrageous fee but it felt weird that it wasn’t mentioned verbally and that the sign was barely readable. A lot of people don’t carry cash. Coffee was not great but I got decaf so the expectations are pretty low. Just a heads up for other folks that...

The drinks are great, but my dog and I come here every day just to see Katie. She is so friendly and fun - literally the highlight of our day, every single day! She is so good at suggesting drinks that end up being exactly what I wanted. She is also extremely hardworking and manages so much at once.
