UPDATE: After emailing management, I received a response from the co-owner after a week. Appreciate the thorough response and it sounds like they are undergoing staff changes to address their unprofessional behavior. Hoping to see improvement in the next few weeks.

TLDR: they're racist towards Asians, do NOT go here.

This is tough because I threw a birthday party with Gold Bar when they were located in SLU. I went to one of their opening parties in their new location in Cap Hill, and while smaller, was happy to support their new move and fun cocktails. Their apps used to be great.

That being said, I had the WORST experience last night, was treated extremely poorly, and definitely treated worse than my friends who weren't Asian. The space was not packed at all, so when I waited at the tiny bar, I assumed I was next. As I'm about to order, three other people walk up to the bar and bartender said they got there first. Which they definitely did not...I don't know if they were friends with the bartender or not, but should have been my first red flag. I only got 1 drink around 1am, and by 2am sharp, my drink was ripped out of my hand from the staff. I get it's closing time, but a heads up would have been appreciated? Note that this only happened to me, and none of my other friends. Had we received a "10-15 min" warning to finish our drinks, I would have been more prepared and finished up earlier. There are sooo many other ways to indicate closing time, but I have never had a bartender physically grab a drink out of my hand. It may sound dramatic, but it honestly felt super violating, given that our group of 6 were all having a good time just sitting and chatting.

Everything was completely abrupt, and in addition to all this, there seemed to be random people outside that weren't even in the bar originally, enforcing that we leave immediately. As we're waiting outside for our car, we were understandably upset, but then we were repeatedly told that we need to walk away from the bar entrance. Our group was not belligerent at all, but they wanted us gone and away from the venue asap.

Stay far far away from this place because you will be treated like scum especially if you're Asian. Tons of other awesome bars nearby, don't waste your time in this...

A group of friends and I came across gold bar on the street and decided to grab a drink. When we approached the inside nobody acknowledged us. Then a waitress walked us out to a dirty table outside (that was a four top) when we said we were there just for drinks she stated that “she wasn’t ready to take our drink order at the moment” after waters came out she took our order at 11:11pm then when 11:30 came around I told the waitress we haven’t gotten our drinks and she didn’t seemed surprised she just looked at her tablet and walked away! Then when 11:50 came around my friend and I went inside to ask for a refund nobody acknowledged us again. We told said waitress and she again shrugged us off… we then asked a different worker and our previous waitress came to us with our HALF full drinks saying “so I have your drinks” and I then said “it took 50minutes to make those?” And she said “yes” and when I told her I wanted a refund instead she got defensive and very rude and dumped out our drinks and said talk to the other waitress… My friends and I were really excited to try this new bar but the service was not good what so ever and with our $125 tab I expected to get our order in a timely matter. And don’t get me started on the poor service… your customers are your priority but our waitress at gold bar could care less honestly wish I would’ve...

Won't go back there again. Terrible service and just rude. My husband has a broken toe and it was a special occasion that we made arrangements to come check out this spot. I dropped off my husband first and walked back to the bar after I found parking. I explained to the lady at the security check that my husband has my ID and he has a broken toe and probably sitting inside with a spot, she won't let me go get him and said if he could come here he is fine walking. I was standing on the edge of the door looking inside and she said, " Step aside you can't step inside or at the edge of the door. Give him a call and have him bring your ID." When my husband showed up she suspicious looked at his boots and said, "He is fine just a broke toe." Not only did we lose our spot but how rude it was to dismiss someone's injury. You have no idea how hard it was for us the last month and the arrangements we made to have a precious night out to come check out this bar. Oh and she didn't even ask my husband for his ID when he walked in 10 mins earlier. So noway we are coming back and...

The decor and service are good, I love the umbrella drinks, but the food is slow and expensive for what it is! Three friends and I went here on a Thursday night at 7 and were able to snag a table (there was a meetup happy hour going on earlier that evening). I was craving a pina colada and was slightly surprised that it was not a standard off-menu drink (you have the umbrellas!), but that it was a special occasion that they had both pineapple and coconut cream. One friend ordered a beer (the beers are very small! I think germans would kick you out of the guild for beers that small). Among the four of us we ended up ordering one of each taco as well as the chips & guac, and each ended up paying about $25. I'd definitely return for happy hour, but don't see myself making this a regular place to visit otherwise!

Super sweet little bar. Cozy and chill with 70s era styling. Good drinks, good music. Glad to see this space actually have something stick in this neighborhood, I know it had a bunch of different tenants over the years. Only thing is that the lower level doesn’t get any heat, it was absolutely freezing down there. I was there during a night with a low of 33• so probably usually not as bad. Some areas feel a little unconsidered like too many layers of paint, but they’re just getting going and it does kind of add to the vibe. Overall cute, I’ll be back. Great place to start or end the night, little couch areas where you can fit a large group to pregame your night. Nice neighborhood spot!

First time at Gold Bar. Chips and guacamole were unexpectedly unique and delicious (not spicy). The drinks were great and the ambiance was extra excellent with their creative outdoor seating situation to accommodate for covid. There was plenty of space between us and the next groups. We were in our own “pens” with one other table. Really great ambiance! It felt busy but safe and distant from others. I hope the city allows this type of seating more often. The staff was friendly and spectacular. Shout out to Jessica, our server. I hope guests can appreciate how much they’re doing (outside of risking themselves) for how many tables there are compared to staff.
