I received a gift of fresh halibut, sea scallops, mussels, and clams. The halibut filet looks great. The bag of scallops was busted open in the shipping process (I guess they are too cheap to buy thicker bags or double bag when packing). Only 3 scallops were whole, the rest were bits and pieces. There were 8 live mussels and 15 dead. For some strange reason, the mussels were in a plastic bag and not some kind of net bag to breathe. The clams were all dead on arrival and the bag had a lot of liquid in it. The clams should have been in some kind of net bag to breathe, but they suffocated like most of the mussels. There was a slight smell, not in a good way. Also, the box had way too much room for all of the items to move around and I suspect that is why the bag of scallops busted open.
I took some pictures and sent a text to the store in Seattle, and a few minutes later I received a call from them. The guy tried to tell me that the moluskus were good to be cooked and that they are safe. I tried to explain shellfish should close when tapped, but he kept to his guns and said they are good to go. And he was right, they were good to go straight into the trash.
I may live in Ohio, but I'm no stranger to seafood and what good seafood looks, and smells like. The clams were not iffy, they were dead. Now, I could have taken a risk on the 8 mussels I suspected to be live, but I'm not going to risk getting sick for 8 mussels.
I looked at the box and it was shipped at 3pm (PST) on Saturday and arrived at my house about 4:30 pm (EST) on Monday. That's 48 hours and I'm sure the fish and scallops are going to be fine, but the moluskus should have been over night or packaged correctly. Also, the website says overnight delivery.
I have ordered from Pure Food Fish Market and Pike Place Fish Market and received great seafood and everything was packed well. I guess this is what I get from straying from the places I know were good. Both of those places didn't send my moluskus in a plastic baggie.
I hope management sees this post and makes a change in the process in packing online orders. As for me, I am going to stick with Pike Place Fish Market and Pure Food...
Read moreSad to write this review but this is not my first poor experience there.
I waited 20 MINUTES. I noticed that the person who was after me was eating already. 20 minutes is a long time to wait for your order. I got up and walked to the counter and asked what was taking so long especially since the person who was in line behind me had been served a little while ago. The answer I was given: "did you order something from the grill?" Me: no. "Did you order a taco?" Me: no. I ordered fish and chips. "Oh ok, well sometimes it depends what you order. And we have 18 things on the grill right now..." Me: ok but 20 minutes is a long time and you should be serving people that got here first, before the ones who arrive later. Simple logic.
Fish was slightly UNDER COOKED and NOT THAT GREAT. Fries were just ok. I didn't finish and I regret going there for lunch today.
Now I am wondering if this happened because I had not tipped yet...?
You see I got so tired of the tipping habits that are pushed on people nowadays. Like tipping for everything and anything. Like the other day at the market, I was getting some microgreens and sure enough, on the screen I almost selected tip because I was trying to hurry. Then same thing at another stand, while buying peaches. Its annoying and you have to pay attention to the screen because they make it sneaky so you tip for everything and anything.
But the main thing that annoys me is when you're asked if you want to add a tip, before you even got served or before you pick up an order. If I'm picking up, sorry but I am NOT tipping.
And if I haven't gotten served yet, well I am NOT tipping either. And today, at the Seattle Fish Company, I'm so glad that I didn't fall into the guilt tripping tip manipulation. Because boy I would've regretted it for sure. (Or not, if the fact that I had not left a tip yet was the reason I was taken care of last).
DO NOT TIP BEFORE YOU'RE SERVED and do not tip if you're ordering a coffee to go or picking up a lettuce at the market. This is getting ridiculous.
As for Seattle Fish Company: I...
Read moreWhat a rip-off!!! We ordered 5 different fish species at a total cost of $499.00 to try these guys out. Once the order was placed we received a call stating the “Lingcod was not in good shape” and that they would not send it. I thought this was good customer service at this point. Then we receive Swordfish that was bad and expensive Chilean Sea Bass that must have been frozen, thawed and re-frozen a few times as the texture was “not right” and it was swimming ina lot of water once received. The taste was just okay but nowhere near other providers we typically work with.
When the order was placed with the owner (Jon Daniels) he stated he would take care of me on this initial order of $499.00. Right. He charged us the full $499.00 and did not adjust the cost for the fishthey didn’t send. They were supposed to put an invoice along with shipping info inside the box. Nothing was in there except the product. When I emailed him and told him about the Swordfish and no documentation his email response was “sounds good, talk soon.” So I emailed right back “I’m not sure what that means, but I need an invoice and a credit emailed to me.” That was 2-weeks ago and he has not responded.
We contacted another provider and placed an order to try them out. What ol’ Jon is unaware of is we spend around $5k to $6k every year on clients with most of that spent during the holidays. The owner of the company we have been getting product from for the past 7-years passed away and his sons can’t seem to send a complete order, and we have been patience but the holidays are here so we need another provider.
We have made our argument with the credit card company who is on track with this regarding a credit for the fish that was sent spoiled and the fish that was never sent to begin with.
Do not use these guys!!! I was told they probably send the fish that haven’t sold at their restaurant/store, so the product is already challenged before you...
