don’t eat the toothpicks!!
i was on my way to get a sandwich nearby when i saw this new spot and had to check it out. the energy is fantastic and bright and very appealing. the inside matched the energy and everyone i interacted with was a joy.
i got the combo plate with one of each taco flavor; a delicious plate of refreshingly light slaw, salsa with a good burn, and three crispy tacos. the folks running the shop have fantastic energy and i loved the colorful paint and fun interior.
the slaw is not mayo based and has a bit of a twist with some celery and cilantro that really works well.
the first of the tacos, “papas” a delicious creamy garlic potato filing. that’s it! but it’s delicious. the filling is not too thick, and has enough creaminess that it’s easy to eat and surprisingly light for a potato filled fried taco. but the crispy fried taco provides a nice structure to hold the delicious filling and the garlic and spices work exceptionally well.
the second; “spicy cauliflower” a delicious, very smooth, and wonderful mix. surprisingly smooth for a cauliflower based filling. none of the slightly gritty texture i normally associate with cauliflower fillings. the spice is a nice light burn and is augmented by the salsa’s heat.
last, but not least--i think i’ll struggle to order anything other that one of each in the future--the “hushwe” or lebanese brown butter beef. it’s like the platonic ideal of a taco that’s “just” seasoned ground beef. the texture is what you’d expect from ground beef and was a bit of a shock from the smoothness of the other tacos, but oh it is delicious. the seasoning and meat are just highlighted by the perfect amount of buttery tastiness.
can’t wait to enjoy the other options...
Read moreI am besides myself at the positive reviews!?!?! Terrible customer service and under-seasoned food. Awful and incredibly rude customer service just nasty and rude, it was unbelievable. Felt incredibly unwelcome and sad like I did something wrong. The cashier was in the worst mood imaginable. I should’ve walked out, no clue why I didn’t. And I still tipped! Why? No clue I’m just a nice person that would feel like an a** if I didn’t :/. I mean I asked what is the soup of the day and instead of speaking to me like a human the cashier just pointed to the menu, didn’t say a single word. Even my friend recognized that that was rude. Also she would ignore me and my friend when we would try to get their attention to ask a question, I mean asking for napkins seemed like the biggest bother. I haven’t met someone that rude in a WHILE. Wow. I pride myself on being a kind person and this was unbelievable, I would never image treating anyone like this anytime but especially not in a place of business.
To add the cherry on top, the food was incredibly under-seasoned, so underwhelming and just oily. I expected something unique and flavorful out of the brown butter beef and it was just so mid and oily. The potatoes taco had the worst texture imaginable and was wayyy under seasoned. Best part of the meal was the chicken tortilla soup and my glass of water.
Also realizing I tipped…for a restaurant where I have to buss my own table…and no actual table service was given yikes…
Anyway I’ll literally never be back here and I really don’t recommend you go either! I usually trust Infatuation and their reviews but they missed the mark terribly and I’m half convinced they were...
Read moreI had low- to moderate expectations, but still managed to be disappointed. The menu showed "Best nachos in town". Seemed like a safe bet. It wasn't. Definitely not the best nachos. In any town. While the chips themselves were thicker, crunchy and good, the "cheese" sauce was disgusting, guacamole minimal, and the beans... about one and a half tablespoons in total. And of course yet another place that offers a minimal suggested tip of 18% where no actual service is provided and customers are left to bus their own tables. The nacho price: $16 before tax. For the exactly 48 chips that were included the price-per-chip math is pretty easy. A terrible value, but better than my initial estimate of 32 chips (thank you to the owner for clarifying the exact amount). I'm sure the other food without the cheese sauce is quite good, but certainly don't believe you will be served the "best nachos in town". A bag of Juanita's chips and jar of cheez whiz would beat these, both in terms of taste and certainly value.
I'm told this is a new business, and I really do wish it success, as it's a hard business to get into with a lot of competition. The location is great, and I'm sure the ambiance for a drink and quick meal would be good. The chips themselves really are great (alone with guac would probably be very good), but for the price I'd just ask for a more decent amount of beans and an improved cheese. Thank you to the owner for the review response - duly noted about the...
