ALERT! I am revising my previous review due to a recent decline in the quality of service.
The business has been inconsistent in fulfilling orders. On several occasions, I have received incorrect or incomplete orders, such as a pepper cheese steak without peppers and onions or a regular cheese steak with mushrooms. This is particularly concerning as I travel over 30 miles to patronize this establishment.
In addition, the business is often unavailable for orders through Uber Eats, despite having an active storefront on the platform. This is inconvenient and frustrating, as it limits my options for placing an order.
I hope that the business will address these issues and return to its previous standard of excellence.
Previous review I love the Original Philly because it's been around since I was a kid. They have longevity within the community! They are truly a black business staple that i hope never goes away. Original Philly is welcoming to all members of the community. My grandmother, who recently passed, would always bring us Phillys Fridays from here, She really loved her pepper chicken steak philly, and this is one of my fondest memories of her.
She always celebrated black businesses and supported them. Along with her wisdom and love for good food, she passed the tradition of Philly fridays to the younger generation. We love their hospitality - and with my family mostly being from the East Coast, it's very hard to find that atmosphere at other businesses in Seattle.
Original Philly is family business is still providing affordable options for our community even with the changing economy. Everyone in this area has raised their prices due to gentrification, but they've never wavered to keep their food affordable and abundant. Their customer service is always on point, and I love how they provide jobs and opportunities for youth.
Original Philly is more than just a restaurant. It is a part of our community and strengthens the bloodline in the black community with their influence to inspire more black families to come. Oh, and did I mention the...
Read moreThe owner has always been friendly, polite, and generous over the years. You get a sandwich filled with a massive amount of meat, flavored with cheese & other goodies. The fries are large & yummy. Drinks are super cold.
But now The place it's self does not look inviting, and welcoming even though they gave it an outside face lift a few years ago. Actually now if you took a peak inside while standing outside , you would end up with so many questions on your mind mostly about hygiene,as if no one is looking after the place to keep up the aesthetic look, and the appeal of the place, and the cleanliness of the place. The place look dark, not enough lighting , plus other things. (Sad) We used to dine in before covid. Back then The place used be clean & inviting and the food was really good. So we learned to trust that their food was always good. But now you have to order outside the restaurant door.,. Their prices have gone up . It's ok. , and you would expect the food to come as good as always been. But No. The main dish( the cheese meat sandwich) is not as good as used to . It is like the owner does not care about the quality of his meat that he is serving to his customers. The meat itself has a funny smell ( almost funky) Like a strong gamy , or meat smell similar to meat left outside the fridge for a long time. You still get a massive amount of meat on the sandwich, But Then the food taste, will force you to stop eating, after you take a few bites. And you wants to give it to a hungry stray animal or a bird,or put it your trash bin. You think this is a one time incident, but after you order a few times you lose your trust that was built over the years for this place. Also because now it is like a take out , you get none ,Or don't get enough condiments to enjoy your food with. And the owner does not put enough in your food bag. There is no area that is built just for waiting customers. It is rough outside...
Read moreThe food is great, but the place looks horrible and like a whole list of FDA protocol are being violated. I've seen and had a few concerns with this place. The first would be everyone does not seem to care about cross contamination. I've seen mulitple cooks including manager/supervisor/GM (older black man seems to "runs" the show) wear gloves, open cash register, touch money, and with the same gloves go back and cook customer food. Another HUGE issue/concern is they let this Black male who is not an employee hang out there all day everyday and does as he pleases. He sits in the first booth and drinks his 211 malt beer with his remote in one hand and store telephone in the other and it's extremely worrisome to customers who come in and see how this business is ran. I mean I know they cook great food and have been in service for years, but if they plan on staying in service they should get it together and fast. No exceptions considering the location is in the poor part of South Seattle. This place is named The Original Philly-"Best Philly in Town" they need to represent and stop being cheap-fix the place up and start running a professional, clean cutt business. The younger White male I do have to say is awesome..he's fast, efficient, and customer service is the best of all. The whole team needs new shirts. The ones they have look as if they are decades old and employees should not wear as they please. Showing up to work like you rolled out of bed in sweats should not be excepted. Hopefully y'all wake up and smell the coffee...
