got the traditional Tres Leches Cake
this was straight up an incredible cake
from the time i took my first bite, i was immediately surprised as to how flavorful this was the amount of milk soaked in this cake, and the amount that the cake absorbed, was unreal
i'm pretty used to dry cakes at this point - so the cake being this wet was so unique when you think about a cake being wet, normally it's not a good thing, but in this case the surrounding milk had so much flavor, so much sweetness, that it gave each bite of the normally-boring cake inside an incredible taste
speaking of the sweetness, this was an astoundingly sweet cake, maybe the sweetest cake i've ever had however, this wasn't sickly sweet - on the contrary the sweetness, combined with the milk flavor, created a powerful taste that was absolutely fantastic
this place was also unique in the amount of milk used - there was so much that the bottom of the cake box was almost full of milk this had a disadvantage - that i'll get to later - but the advantage was that it drenched every part of the cake in that sweet milk goodness I'd never had tres leches cake before - so I didn't know what to expect - but I simply didn't expect a cake to be this flavorful, the result of pouring three types of milk over the finished cake The whipped cream icing on top also tasted pretty good
what makes this cake great can really be seen when comparing it to other cakes other cakes have an inside that's light and fluffy - they have some flavor but the real flavor comes from the icing in this cake, due to the milk and sugar mixture that gets absorbed into the cake, each inside bite comes with that icing flavor + better
with that said, this gets really close to a perfect score, but I can't give it that for a couple reasons Firstly, the icing is just whipped cream. Which is fine - it tasted good - but I can't help but think a real icing would've made this a lot better. The whipped cream is simply too airy and light to really taste like anything
Secondly, the cake is simply too runny. I recognize this is part of what brings the flavor in, but the downside of this is when taking out slices of the cake (and not eating it directly from the box) the milk gets all over your plate and the texture isn't great. There's also just too much milk at the box in the end
Overall, the most flavorful cake I've ever...
Read moreI’m sorry but this is not Tres leches, I’m stunned that many people really liked this. The milk is just too runny, and literally can sense the milk taste lol. I wonder if they have used any condensed and evaporated milk at all. Please improve it as your customers may like it more if you make the dessert right.
I have tasted some best tres leches, among one is the Portos Bakery in LA. You guys need to try that.
Reply to your comment - When I commented that you might not have used any condensed or evaporated milk, why did you refer to canned products? Do you know they can also be made from scratch without using preservatives?
If this is your style of making this cake, you could have named it something else or at least added some little description to it about how you made it differently unlike the traditional tres leches. We came all the way and got this thinking this might be the actual tres leches, but its no way near to that. Well, Im not being rude but the way you didn’t take any feedback instead covering up is not at all...
Read moreI think there are a lot of different versions of tres leches, some more traditional than others. This tres leches to me is such a great combination of traditional and modern. It's definitely unique and very rich. The packages are generally a large portion so you might not want to eat it all at once... I often did anyways because it was just so good. Sometimes I would eat my husband's too... a real test of marriage lol. I've tried a lot of different tres leches ranging from traditional to what my Latin husband would call "birthday cake in disguise" and I honestly think this one ticks all the boxes for us especially when we want a sweet treat. I used to love trying their new flavors too which is nice because it gave us variety. We have moved cross country and we still talk about + crave this tres leches all the time.
100% a dessert we will...
