World class research university. The best in the Northwest. Home to a plethora of different colleges, departments and majors.
The campus is over a mile long, with trails and pedestrian walkways intertwined to connect various areas of campus. Iconic building architecture, including the "Quad" a feature commonly found on most respected universities. "Red square" is the central point to most student activities and "soapboxing", very cool site to see indeed. Natural beautiful is an defining aspect of the University of Washington, as greenery is found all over the entire campus, especially the main thruway from the largest library, Suzallo and Allen to E Stevens way, called "Skagit Ln". Off of which is a Grieg Garden and the Hub Yard, both natural spaces full of greenery. Denny yard, is home to the original and first building of the campus, make sure you go and see as it is historical and has another iconic element, the bell tower. It is undergoing renovation this year, but should be done soon.
I really enjoy the wealth of knowledge at this campus. The campus is home to among the largest collection of academic research libraries in North America, as also stated in wikipedia, but from a personal standpoint, you need to see them to appreciate them. There is over 10 libraries you can visit, but I love Suzallo, which is home to what they call the "Harry Potter" Room. Check it out, you won't be misled.
Finding a place to study and work, can be a challenge on campus, because the amount of students. It can get insanely busy Fall Quarter.
As far as amenities, the campus is also home to the IMA, (Intermural Activities Building), which is open to students and the general public, but you do have to pay, its basically a nice fancy gym. Google it and see the review, but it is an amazing facility. A central food court and student center is found at the HUB (Husky Union Building). A state of the art facility with view screens and full food court on the lower level, with a miniature version of the UW Bookstore and a Haircut Salon. Within the HUB is fireplaces and common spaces as well offices for student run organizations. There is a US Bank branch inside the HUB as well as a bike repair shop.
From a sports perspective, The football stadium and basketball arena are side by side near the UW like rail, massive modern facilities for aspiring athletes and also serve as a source of entertainment for spectators during game time. Athletes have their own training facility separate to aforementioned IMA.
The university is also connected to the Puget Sound via the Link Light Rail at the UW Station near the Stadium. I find that the it is a walk from the Light Rail, but it's such a beautiful path through Rainer Vista with the fountain that its no biggy, very accessible to get the the center of campus from this point. If your not up for the walk, which I am not, sometimes, you can take King County Metro Buses, from multiple points around campus.

Read moreLet’s not sugarcoat it: University of Washington, Seattle (UWS) and UC Davis are in completely different leagues. It’s day and night. There’s no debate.
UWS is elite — a powerhouse in research, innovation, and global reputation. It’s a true R1 institution with cutting-edge facilities, a world-class faculty, and direct pipelines into tech, health, and science industries. Located in Seattle, you’re next door to Amazon, Microsoft, and dozens of global companies. It’s where top-tier students go to become world-shaping professionals.
Meanwhile, UC Davis? Let’s be real: it’s not in the same tier. Overrated, overstuffed, and plagued with mediocrity, UC Davis is where ambition goes to stall. A place where you’re either lost in the system or suffocated by it. If you’re too smart, you get sidelined. If you speak up, you get reported. Originality gets punished.
Add to that a weak ROI (just $58K after 10 years), massive lecture halls, and a toxic mix of competition and conformity, and what do you really have? A school riding on past reputation, not actual performance.
UWS moves the world forward. UC Davis struggles to manage its own systems.
If you’re serious about your future — academics, career, growth — you go to University of Washington, Seattle. UC Davis isn’t even in the...
