A Delicious Detour in Sebastopol
While on a day trip north of San Francisco, we took a detour into Sebastopol for lunch. El Coronel was right there, and it looked like a good option because we had our little puppy with us. It was a beautiful afternoon, and they had outdoor seating available.
El Coronel Mexican Restaurant was founded by Armando Coronel in 2002 and has been part of Sebastopol's culinary scene since then. It has been a family-run operation for over two decades and serves tasty Mexican cuisine. El Coronel is known for its sizzling fajitas, delicious combinations, flavorful tacos, and burritos. They have a beautiful patio with a complete outdoor bar. The interior is beautifully designed and looks comfortable for individuals and both small and large groups.
We started with an order of Guacamole, their House Margarita, and Hibiscus Tea. The Guacamole was freshly made, and there was plenty of it! We enjoyed the combination of fresh guacamole and chips. The drinks were good, too.
We decided to share a Parrillada (which means grilled in English) for the main dish. There was plenty of food. The meats (beef, pork, and chicken) were all fresh, well-cooked, and flavorful. It came with a plate of rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, and fresh tortillas.
I could not leave without trying their flan and was very happy I didn't! It was one of the better flans I have had in a while.
The staff was very attentive and friendly. A gentleman, who may have been the owner or manager, stopped by our table and asked how we were doing. He was very friendly and welcoming.
We enjoyed our experience, and as we left, I made a mental note to come back and try their Molcajete! It...
Read moreThis is a tough one for me. I've been a patron to this restaurant for decades. I do love the food and the owner himself is great. However the last few times I've been in there I feel very strongly that I was treated differently and was nickel dimed. One time in particular my friend and I ordered off the happy hour menu we got tacos and beers. They got my order wrong not one but twice, in the end we were charged full price for beers and the wrong orders which i had to ask them to remove the food plates that were brought back to the kitchen. Mentioned the beer pricing to them and the waiter said we needed to specify that we were wanting happy hour beers. Again we were ordering off of the happy hour menu, literally pointing to it. The next time myself and a friend went and got 2 tacos each, we asked for no salsa and the waiter asked if Pico degallo was OK, to which we said yes. We were charged extra per taco for the pico?! Wild. If there's an Upcharge for something at least mention it. Whatever is happening in there recently has really left a bad feeling for me. I'm bummed because normally I like going there, again the owner is great, there's a lady that works in there that I've enjoyed seeing for years also but the new crew has really started to make it feel...
Read moreEdit: it too bad that their food is good, since they can never seem to make an order correctly. I can't say the exact number, but every time we have ordered in the past 6 months (at least once every other week) they have gotten the order wrong. Tonight my burrito was not made wet, was missing the black beans, and had sour cream. Doesn't matter if we eat there, order for pick up, or on doordash. There is always something wrong or missing, often both. Lately the kids who work the pick up counter are very rude, openly talk about customers in front of customers. My original post from 2 years ago is below. Clearly not much, if anything, has changed for the better.
Original post:
The food here is really good, we go at least once every other week. However, every time we pick up our order there are s something missing, it could be small like the extra guac, or major like the tortillas for my fajitas. Seriously, every order since March/April has had something missing. If it wasn't for this issue I would give...
