I was excited to try this place. Three of us went here for my birthday dinner. Unfortunately it was mediocre. We ordered the following: Veggie samosa Veggie pakora Tandoori vegetables Tandoori lamb Tandoori salmon Palak paneer Garlic naan
Of the appetisers, the pakora were far better than the samosa. The samosa were very greasy and lacked seasoning. The tandoori vegetables were plentiful, but again bland. I don’t eat meat so I didn’t taste the other 2 dishes, but was told the larger pieces of lamb were OK, but the smaller pieces were very dry. The other person enjoyed their salmon. All 3 dishes also came with a generous serving of rice which was odd in my experience as usually you select whether you want rice OR naan. The palak paneer was the best of the dishes and the naan were very good. Overall, everything was just a bit on the bland side and missing the signature flavours of Indian cuisine.
The service was also only OK. We were seated quickly but it was 5-10 minutes before we received menus and then we were only given a couple minutes before someone came to take our order. We had to request more time. The dishes from the appetisers were not cleared before the main course so we evens up having to clear the dishes and set them aside ourselves while they were placing the main courses on the table then request they take the other plates away.
While we planned to share the dishes and all selected dishes we enjoy, it would’ve helpful for the wait staff to suggest at least 1 curry because everything was also dry since no accompaniments were provided. We also had to request knives because none were provided and I don’t know how you’re supposed to eat a quarter of an eggplant or large pieces of meat with a fork and spoon. One small set of tongs were provided with the vegetarian dish, but no additional utensils were provided for serving the other dishes.
In terms of COVID safety and protocols, there is seating outdoors, some covered, but there’s no source of heat. We would’ve preferred to eat outdoors but it was too chilly. A couple who was outdoors ended up moving in. Most of the staff wore masks but the owner (?) did not and I’d be surprised if the ventilation indoors was adequate.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend eating here due to the overall underwhelming food...
Read moreOne of our favorite restaurants in Sebastopol. Consistently tasty food. The daal (lentil soup, complimentary when eating in) is so smooth and savory, even a friend who dislikes lentils enjoyed it; it is also vegan and gluten free. We are hooked on the chicken tikka masala, chana masala (chickpeas), and all the dishes with paneer. You can choose how mild or spicy you want the entrees. You can see the spice pods in the sauces which add to the chickapow flavors. All of the naan is great; the cilantro one was surprising and the butter naan is our favorite. They offer both brown and white rice. The owner and family are so welcoming while also being quick and never intrusive. It's nice to have a sit down place without picnic benches, although it's also not fancy. Right outside is a vibrant, diverse garden (try to guess what is growing on the tree!). We have also had pick up orders that were no different in quality. I pretty much never write reviews, but I want others to try this place so that it...
Read moreThis place has been a long time favorite until now. This was the best curry in the area however they must have recently changed their recipes. Their chicken tikka masala was a comfort food that I would get often, I went there in January or February and it was still delicious. We first noticed things were different when we saw the serving sizes of the curry was smaller than it used to be, yet more expensive. Even the naan used to come with 4 pieces an order but now only came with two pieces, even though it is also more expensive than before. The quality and quantity used to be worth the prices, so an increase is understandable over time. But increases in price while decreasing the quantity and quality of the food doesn’t make sense. It’s also extremely disappointing, this was literally one of my favorite restaurants. But I couldn’t even finish the curry it wasn’t like it had been literally a few months ago. Sad to see another...
