11/28/2024 Happy Thanksgiving What an amazing Thanksgiving dinner and anniversary celebration at Mariposa with my wife. We both ordered the prefix Thanksgiving dinner which came with turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, bread, stuffing and dessert. We started with the soup which was also fantastic. My wife had a crafted tequila cocktail and I ordered a bottle of Plumpjack Chardonnay. We finished with the cheesecake, sorbet and a nice anniversary dessert accompanied with cappuccino. The ambiance, staff and customer service was stellar. Highly recommened
Lunch 11/28/2023 Had reservations for lunch today at Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill. What a beautiful restaurant in such a positive and inspiring location. The ambiance is uplifting and soul enriching. Lanaya was our server extraordinare and such a kind, welcoming, and professional young lady. We so appreciated Lanaya's personality and professional outlook on our dining experience. We started with drinks, and Lanaya hit a home run with her Mojito presentation as it was just perfect. We started our dining with two bowls of the Justino Soup, which was served hot and tasty. After enjoying the soup, we ordered our lunch entrees. My wife had the Garden of Delight Salad with grilled lemon chicken, and she loved every bite. I had the pulled pork tostadas with the coleslaw, which were both heavenly. Lanaya was very attentive, and so her personality was glowing. After lunch, Lanaya brought us a wonderful anniversary dessert, which was so kind and appreciated. We both ordered a cappuccino, which was simply delightful. What an amazing time. Highly recommended.
Thanksgiving 2023 Happy Thanksgiving dinner with my wife at Mariposa. What a lovely evening. Our servers, Jesus, John, and Chris were very attentive and so kind. We so appreciate the service of those who work holidays as they often sacrifice to serve others. We started with the beef empanadas, which are simply amazing. The tequilla drinks were made to perfection. It is so nice as you are truly afforded time to enjoy each course while conversing. I had a cup of specialty roasted yam bisque soup, and then we ordered the main entrees. My wife had the trout entree, and I had the roasted turkey dinner. Everything was amazing, and then the dessert...oh my. Apple Crisp with Gelato for my wife and I had a scoup of gelato with a cappuccino. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we thank the Dahl Restaurant Group and all staff. Also, a thankful note for the wonderful and welcoming host at the entry to the courtyard. Highly recommended
Thanksgiving 2022 Had our anniversary dinner this evening at Mariposa as it was fantastic. We were greeted by Diego our server who came over to welcome us to the restaurant and wish us happy anniversary. Raymond stopped by and took our drink order and was quite professional and knowledgeable regarding the entire menu as well as specific drinks we inquired about and then ordered. We also ordered some bread and met Ashton another true professional with a very positive demeanor. We enjoyed our drinks and bread as well as the fantastic view through the windows of this gorgeous restaurant. For entrees my wife ordered the roasted chicken entree which she said was amazing and I ordered the filet mignon which was truly in the top 3 I have ever had. We also ordered the lobster mashed potatoes and the cauliflower and yes both were spectacular. I also had an opportunity to watch the kitchen staff in action and they were quite the team and the master chef was like an orchestra conductor and so impressive. Years ago when I managed restaurants and kitchens I learned to truly appreciate the art of cooking and the presentation and synchronization that is involved in the quality dining experience. Alot goes into it and this restaurant has it mastered with amazing food, service and staff. Highly...
Read moreMariposa might, quite literally, be the most overrated upscale restaurant in the country. We had a birthday reservation set months in advance for our first ever trip to Sedona. We had heard all about the amazing sunset views, and figured it was a no brainer considering Mariposa comes up on every blog, review, etc as an upscale date night experience in Sedona. To start out, I do want to clarify that the views here are incredible at sunset. The restaurant is close to the Airport Mesa and has a similar view from their patio and side yard. The catch is, you will likely only be able to enjoy this view from the yard BEFORE you are sat. Why? Because there is zero rhyme or reason to where you are sat in this restaurant and if you ask the host, they will retort with a rude response telling you that they don't have tables available on the patio AFTER you just waited 15 minutes for your "reserved" table. The rest of the dining area consists of a bar with TV's that are playing a fish tank ambiance, and a dining room that rivals that of the Cheesecake Factory or PF Changs (no disrespect to either). Also in the dining room, horrid overhead lighting, and a wine "display" case that has bottles strewn about and blinding neon green LED lights. By this point, we already were trending downward, but the real issue is the service. We didn't see a server for 10 minutes and instead had our waters filled by our busboy twice in that timespan. We eventually got our drinks in and tapas ordered - the drinks were good, but not $18 good, and the octopus and empanadas were good as well. Then we had to wait to get a main course ordered until the tapas were totally finished. At this point we did not see our server again for 25 minutes when the main arrived. We timed it. We sat with empty cocktail glasses that we intended to replace with glasses of wine for our mains, but opted to forego wine because we did not want to be finished with our steak when the wine arrived. The final cherry on top was that he dropped dessert menus, left, and then when we said we were good on dessert, he remembered that this was a birthday celebration and brought back a single scoop of breyers vanilla ice cream, a caramel drizzle and a very tacky chocolate with 'happy birthday' printed on it. All in all, we had 2 drinks, 2 tapas plates and one main and we were at Mariposa for over 2 hours. By the end, we felt like prisoners in a 75% full dining room, anxiously awaiting a check so we could escape the experience, and go drink wine from literally any other place on Earth.
Our advice? Go to Mariposa, take a picture from the yard at sunset, and then go to literally any other restaurant in Sedona. You will enjoy your time more, likely enjoy the food more, and your wallet will thank...
Read moreMariposa was our third dining experience visiting Sedona. Upon arriving to the restaurant your eyes are drawn to their attractive patio space, manicured lawn, and stunning, unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and upscale, yet still welcoming.
We were seated right at 1 o’clock per our reservation. Our server welcomed us not long after we were seated. The dining room has large windows so you do not miss out on the surrounding views.
Our server let us know the drink specials and my fiancé ordered the prickly pear margarita. The margarita was very beautiful, but it was on the verge of being almost too tart. It needed a little more sweetness to balance the tartness.
To start we ordered the Sopa de Justino and Empanada of the day. The soup was very delicious. It is savory as the menu suggests, and there was a subtle hint of heat that really added to the flavor. The empanadas were delicious and so was the chimichurri that accompanied the dish. The empanada dough was beautifully golden brown and flaky.
For main plates we ordered the Caesar salad with white anchovies and fish tacos. Both plates were very flavorful and we enjoyed them. The Caesar salad was dressed well which I appreciated it. The focaccia croutons in the Caesar salad were a touch too salty, but still palatable. The fish tacos were seasoned well and the fish was very tender. The fennel slaw that came with the fish tacos was light in flavor and texture.
For dessert we ordered the New York Style Prickly Pear Cheesecake. The dish itself is so beautiful from the purple of the prickly pear. It was some of the best cheesecake I’ve ever had from a restaurant. The cheesecake was light, the graham cracker crust was plentiful and delicious, and the blueberry sauce and vanilla whipped cream were nice additions that complimented the dessert very well.
Overall the service was great, delicious food, and our food was delivered efficiently.
Lastly as a friendly note the price points are a little overpriced when it came to the Caesar salad ($19 with the anchovies, see picture for portion size), Coca Cola ($4 which is the most I’ve ever paid for a small soft drink at a restaurant), and the small margarita that was almost too tart ($17), but we are noticing that all restaurants are overpriced in Sedona. Thankfully the quality of the food, fine dining experience, good service and attractive views make the...
