Having stayed at El Portal Hotel in Sedona, Arizona twice, I can affirm that it's a luxurious and intimate inn that stands out for its unique charm and strategic location. Nestled right next to the Tlaquepaque arts and shopping district, El Portal offers an exceptional retreat with about a dozen rooms, each boasting its distinct personality and design. The hotel's architecture and decor pay homage to the Arts & Crafts movement, featuring adobe construction with 18-inch thick walls that not only ensure peace and quiet but also carry the whispers of history.
The central courtyard is a gathering hub where guests can enjoy the warmth of a fire pit in the evenings or indulge in a la carte breakfast options in the morning. Despite its proximity to the bustling areas of Sedona, including a short walk to downtown and numerous art galleries, El Portal remains a secluded oasis offering privacy and tranquility. El Portal’s rooms vary in amenities; some feature balconies or patios, fireplaces, and even spa baths in select units. Notably, this boutique hotel extends its hospitality to pets, providing a welcoming and comfortable stay for furry family members. The inn is recognized for its personalized service, with concierge staff ready to recommend local dining, hiking, and exploration options. Guests are also granted access to fitness centers, swimming pools, and a day spa located at a neighboring resort
El Portal Hotel is not just a place to stay, but a destination in itself, offering a blend of luxury, history, and warmth that makes each visit memorable. Whether you’re drawn by the artisanal craftsmanship of its interiors, the welcoming embrace of its pet-friendly policies, or the serene beauty of its courtyard, El Portal promises a stay that’s both extraordinary...
Read moreJust got back from our wonderful stay at the BEAUTIFUL El Portal. I cannot praise it enough! It was everything we wanted. From spacious, gorgeous and super clean (a rarity these days) rooms, to the cozy firepit that had a fire going first thing every morning to enjoy your coffee by, and first thing every night to enjoy your s'mores. The lighting in the courtyard just instantly draws you in and makes you want to quickly grab a blanket (which they have stacks to offer), pull up an Adirondack, get your spot next to the fire and chat with the other hotel guests coming and going. There were even people who had the GENIUS idea to work remotely at this beautiful inn. If being outside isn't for you, don't worry! There is a fire burning in the lobby, which really feels less like a lobby and more like home. There is fresh coffee made every morning and an array of breakfast goodies and snackies that you can help yourself to, at no extra charge (another rarity) . They also have small refrigerators stocked with various fun local beers, ciders and wine for you to try - charge it to my room, please! The conversation, the warm cozy feeling, the comfort of knowing you're not being glared at for bringing your family's most loyal companion (your pup), the ease of check in and check out, THE GORGEOUS ROOMS!!!! They even have a sweet little basket made up for your pup with treats to make them feel right at home. The owners, Steve and Connie, really think of all the fine details to make your stay extra comfy and special. That's what stood out to me the most. You don't feel like your staying at some generic hotel. El Portal feels like you're staying with a friend; couldn't be more comfortable. I am definitely making my way back out to this diamond...
Read moreWe've traveled all over the world and seldom enjoyed a hotel more. The owners have exhibited great care and planning in El Portal. How many times have you gone to a hotel and said, "I wish they.... ? You won't here for they've thought of everything. Furniture is hand crafted and made of beautiful burls and other expensive woods. The bathroom has a Jacuzzi tub, a large tile shower, separate WC and large vanity, all done in beautiful tiles, copper basins...etc.The architecture, Craftsman, furnishings and even the door handles are circa 1920. Julia Morgan could have been the inspiration. But all of that would fail if it were not for the dedication of Steve and Connie. They treat their guests as though this establishment were their home. It might as well be since they seem to be there day and night. So, for those who come to Sedona to relax and let their cares go someplace else, this hotel is a great place. We've been to Sedona many times and have usually stayed at Enchantment which is a really gorgeous property with its world class spa. But they don't take dogs and this year we decided to take Rex, our German shepherd. He's very friendly and many of the other guests also had dogs. So it was a wonderful experience for our entire family. Rex seemed to understand that he was most welcome also.. When you sum up your experiences in various lodges/hotels/spas you always leave with a memory, a feeling. Rarely have I thought, as I left, "flawless." Such is the case...
