Gold Rush Bistro — Restaurant in Seward

I don’t like to say negative things about a restaurant but I felt this warranted my comment. I will start with the good points of the dinner. This was for a take out order of fish and chips and chowder. The young lady at the counter was super nice and informative, and what she didn’t know, she walked back to the kitchen to ask. It was early in the day before the dinner rush so the restaurant was not busy. She took our order and we picked it up quickly. (Around 10-15 min). The French fries were delicious. The chowder was delicious. I wish I had only ordered the chowder.

Now to the negative part. The fish was terrible. We had one order of cod and one was halibut. The pieces were small and texture was so-so on both fish dinners. I love salt but the batter was so salty it was hard to eat. The herb spicing on the fish batter was too strong and so I felt like I was eating fish I couldn’t taste that was slightly mushy covered in thick herbal salt. I thought I would cut the salt and herbs with the tarter sauce but it also, did not taste good. I admit, I’m known for making some of the best tarter sauce ever, so maybe it was an unfair comparison. The dinner was 77 dollars. I realize this is a touristy area, but I always hope to get the best of the best when I order from...

This place is not friendly towards people with kids. I had seen a few reviews saying as much and we experienced it as well.

My 5 year old was starving and having a tough time. I took him outside to get him to chill and we came back inside to try again (my mom and older kiddo were seated).

He had mostly calmed down and we were ordering drinks when another employee comes up and says that if we can’t keep our voices down (in a restaurant that was already very loud?) we needed to leave. They offered us a discount if we wanted takeout. I was so flabbergasted I must have looked it because then she tells me “our boss in the kitchen can hear you”

If that was the case, the boss should have come out and done their own dirty work.

The discount on takeout just felt insulting. We ended up getting takeout from there after all, and the food was very mediocre. 3 of us ordered fish dishes, and all the fish was dry and overcooked. My pasta needed salt.

My husband, family have dined here many times before throughout the years from the day it opened, food usually WAS very cooked and staffing used to be extremely attentive, friendly & accommodate us w/out having to request services, but this day my husband, daughter & I were continually overlooked & not asked if we needed anything, mainly we had to flag down someone to ask for items. The beginning of our dining,my husband found something unpleasant in his ordered plate, the waitress wanted to argue with my husband that he was wrong & that it was cheese in his ordered items. Needless to say, our service from our waitress was very unkind & made us feel extremely unwelcome. They did take the item off the ticket bill, but it was the fact of us as customers were made to experience unwelcoming ( hopefully we Hope it isn't because of our ethnicity & blended family) & not attended to which was unfortunate, we did notice that they did have new staffing, all in all we will hold off from dining...
