Double charged us before arrival. Had to call our cc company to report that second charge was not authorized Upon arrival, it took a minute to find the “black door” entry. It was beat up n dirty. And awkward like trying to open someone’s private apartment. Hurt my hand opening the door because the door handle is at an angle that bangs your hand into the keypad. Had to walk up a steep flight of stairs that we almost fell down several times during stay. Inside this stairwell lighting is low, dirty, wallpaper is peeling, and it smells. Suite door had a note that the door knob sticks and instructions on how to open which requires you to have 2 hands forcing you to sit your belongings on the dirty floor. FYI makes a loud noise upon opening it. The walls and doors are PAPER thin with very large gaps. We can see a two inch gap underneath the entry to our suite. It is NOT a good choice for young kids or couples looking for some “adult” time. Everyone can hear you. One tv remote didn’t have batteries. No cable. The “kids bed” is inside of a closet NOT a converted closet. It’s literally a closet someone stuffed a bed inside of. And the bed is broken. Toys are available, but just random junk that didn’t go with the play kitchen which left my kids bored. So it was miserable trying to keep our kids quiet all night. Old vintage radiators are hot and exposed. Zero safety or childproofing. We spent all night trying to keep our kids from touching all 4 of them. Missing fire alarms in 2 spots and areas that aren’t up to fire safety code. In the bedroom, One of the lamp shades is all busted up inside of it and the lamp doesn’t turn on. Could not use the fan and it was SO hot in there. Bed frame shifts so it is NOT structurally sound. The mattress is cheap, old, and miserable so every time we rolled over the bed shook like we were in an earthquake. The pillows are flat. Woke up with our necks hurting. And NONE of the doors to the bedroom lock or close properly. All night they kept opening and banging into the wall waking us up so we’d have to get up and close them again. No fan in the bathroom and mildewed tape on the window. Super thin toilet paper. No curtains or shade on the window, disgusting mat inside the tub, and filth at the bottom of the toilet. And door lock is horrible. We had to tell our kids not to lock the door so they didn’t get stuck inside. Kitchen felt dirty. We kept finding dirty dishes. The outside of the fridge has something nasty all over it and makes a LOUD sound when it comes on. ZERO ice maker even though it’s supposed to have one. The oven/stove gross. Floor sticky. There are two doors in the kitchen. One is locked shut but super gross at the bottom of it. The other door opened out into the hallway and had absolutely no weather stripping. zero privacy. We noticed under the radiators the floor is filthy, we saw trash, and underneath one was literally d-con RAT POISON. Not only is that dangerous for kids, it shows they have a clear issue with rodent control and are being cheap about it rather than paying a professional. Our night was filled with having to listen to every person outside our door, every footstep inside our suite, the fridge, the doors that wouldn’t stay shut, the doors you have to give a shove to to open, everything echoing, the creaking bed, our neighboring guests kept knocking on OUR door blaming us for noises we literally couldn’t help. THAT made me angry. FYI despite advertising this is NOT a Bed & Breakfast, the kitchen was NOT fully equipment, the appliances are NOT up to date or even relatively new, NO sample oil packets, NO new toiletries, there was no claw foot tub, NO free gym access, and there were no nice views from any of the windows just closed up tops of buildings cause the windows were iced over. Also, the photos of the room are SUPER staged, deceiving, and were taken with an angled realtor type camera to make the room look bigger than it is

I really wanted to like this place as it is quaint and historic and the location in downtown Seward is prime. Unfortunately, the shower barely functioned and did not have hot water. Plus, the main shower faucet leaked loudly all night. I would have ordinarily chalked that up to the building and plumbing being old, it when I called to ask if there was anything the management could do, I received no answer, absolute radio silence from two of the three contacts provided on the info sheet in the room. The third person who answered was out of state and had no idea anything was wrong. And he promised to get back to me and did not. It was just really disappointing to have zero response to the problem. I requested a refund more because of the lack of response than anything else and surprise, surprise heard nothing. Despite the great location and historic ambience, I unfortunately cannot recommend this place. Update: One of the owners has reached out and resolved everything. So I am changing the star rating from two to three and increasing the service to three.

Stayed here twice so far and have used yes the popular Sunrise Suite and this time around the Wilderness suite. Suits my needs both rooms! Has all I needed to feel comfortable! I love vintage buildings so I can appreciate this old gem. If you can’t put up with an old building and old building stuff maybe consider elsewhere? LOCATION is excellent! Perfect for where our meeting was! You do have to practice being very quiet as all is heard downstairs at a business and rooms downstairs. So FYI walk and don’t be overly loud in the hallways and all is good.

hmmm let's say this place was very nice until they dinged my credit card for $400. I was actually planning on staying there again the following weekend. Until I checked my CC card account. Lets start off with we are smokers, thats our choice to be. Did we smoke in the room NO. Did I throw a empty pack of cigarettes in the trash yes. According to the housekeepers our room reeked of smoke, they accused us of smoking in the room, which let me say again we did not. We would go out on bench out front and throw the butts in the trash can two stores down. Now let's start with the room. ||||1) Futon was filthy had to put a sheet over the cushions so you would feel a little cleaner, also futon is broken you set at a very odd angle.. V shaped angle, not like a couch.||2) Had to wash coffee cups that were in cupboard before use, coffee ring in cups, coffee filter had mold in it also washed that, coffee grinder was so clogged with coffee ground beans had to use a knife to scrape the ground coffee out of it.||3) Hair over the drain hole of the claw foot tub.||4) Had people from roof top doing the peeking tom thing while in kitchen.||5) no fan in bathroom, so if anyone used the restroom the room would stink||||I will only say DO NOT STAY HERE IF||1) YOU ARE A SMOKER||2) YOU HAVE VERY STINKY FEET||3) USE RESTROOM BEFORE YOU LEAVE||4) YOU GO FISHING WHILE STAYING THERE. (WE ALL KNOW HOW THAT SMELLS)||||But on the flip side housekeepers are ok with the smell of recreational substances, because when I walked in around 2 to see if we could check in early, I could smell it plain as day. If I knew this was going to happen to me I wouldn't have left a tip that the housekeepers beg for with a envelope taped to table. Maybe I didn't leave a big enough tip for sloppy housekeeping, I did leave $10 for them maybe they expect more. So all I can say is dont stay here if you are planning on being stinky in anyway shape or form, you will get dinged a huge fee, and diffently dont stay here if you are a smoker. But other then what I have said, I didn't complain about the furniture, or tub, or anything else to the owner who lied to me when I called about extra charge. Maybe I should have but it would have just sounded like retaliation against sloppy housekeepers. Another thing if you don't do anything stinky in the room it is a very nice place to stay, history of...

BEWARE! My husband and I visited Alaska last week for our anniversary. We had booked sauerdough lodging back in April where 50%of the total was immediately charge to our credit card. Then 14 days before our arrival the balance was charged. I would of been fine with this if the lodging was as advertised and a safe place to stay. I have pictures of the back of the apartment where we were suppose to stay. The best word I can discribe it is dilapidated. With a false since if security from the front. In the back anyone could come Up a nearby stairway in this allyway and get into the two windows which were suppose to be our "charming " room that in reality was nothing more than rusty tin and tar surrounding it. As for hospitality - No one greeted us at the main door, there was no one there when we preceded to the upstairs - once we walked upstairs the noise from other rooms were very loud ( like a college dorm) . When we entered the apartment with a code emailed to us. The lock was difficult to lock or unlock. We immediately felt uneasy about the place and our security. The bed itself was not a true bed at all ( not like you would get in a average hotel) again very low scale to a cheap cheap hotel. We contacted our credit card company and they contacted the owner asking for a refund. He declined. We offered even to pay for the first night if he would refund the the remaining 4 nights. Which again they declined. Bookers beware this is an old building downtown Seward not a cute little cottage/ or renovated building as you may see on there webpage. The stairwell is dirty and you fell eerie upon entering. We are common ordinary people with the expectation of a holiday inn express. Clean and safe- not sauerdough lodging- it was definitely a "sour" experience. We luckily were able to stay at the best western a block over which was wonderful clean and safe. Unfortunately the owners of "sour" dough are not very nice or accommodating to there guest. The credit card company tried to mediate with him to resolve this and he was unwilling to compromise on any point . Think twice before booking there are several better choices in town! This would not even be my...
