They can take reservations over their limit and don't update you even though you can't be seated. I called in suspicion after an hour.
"How long will it take more?" "At least an hour." "When do you close?" "In 45mins." "How would that work?" "....uh... well... we do our best."
On every Tuesday evening, several hundreds of tourists are dumped into this small town with empty stomach after 6-8hr cruise. More over, almost half of the restaurants in town are closed every Tuesday. I heard there are cruise departures NOT every day but only for 2-3 days per week and Tuesday is one of the cruise day. If I were aware of the situation, I could look for or prepare another options but unfortunately I wasn't. I could talk with multiple hungry families on street who've waited for more than 2hrs for nothing. My family also waited for more than 2hrs. Some other restaurants didn't even take waiting list. You have to wait in front of the door till be seated or closed. I returned this restaurant just to find that I had no chance to be seated. Well, at least I discovered that they do take-out. Yeah, I wan't told. I asked and got very reluctant "yes". I was told another 20mins but again waited another hour to grab pizza in my hands. 3hrs just to grab pizza to go. The dinner advanture strated at about 6pm ended near 9pm. At least, I could give screen time to my kids to forget hunger. Again, if I knew it, I'd have ordered pizza to go at 6pm.
It seems like the Seward town has built up kinds of tourist trap. They know you don't have that much options other than what they offer and that you'd unlikely be back in the near future. So, they already know they don't have to care about you. And they don't. Any way, they will have their tables filled. When I think back now, probably the receptionist just made up numbers of waiting time or waiting team numbers. I give one more star to this restaurant only for opening on Tuesdays. If you have a Kenai cruise booked on...
Read moreThis is another restaurant came highly recommended. A Mediterranean/Greek flare that serves up dishes from steak to seafood to pizzas. At around 8 pm on Friday evening this place was still packed. With limited seating and staffs they were still very polite and attentive. We were seated promptly after the wait time promised. Silverware, menu and glasses or chilled water were provided within a few minutes of us sitting down. The server gave us a few minutes to decide and came back within the time she said she would to take our orders. Love that.
We settled on the steamed mussels with lobster tomato garlic sauce. The mussels were tender and plump. The rich lobster garlic was to-die for. The blend of flavors was just amazing. The have us fresh baked bread sticks to sop up it all up.
Then came the crabcakes. Though it was in the appetizer section but looked and tasted like a main dish. Crabcakes were wonderfully seasoned. Though slightly over charred on the outside but it didn't affect the taste. The bed of spinach salad topped with mango salsa was very refreshing against the cream sauce served with crabcakes.
Lastly the seafood pasta livoreneze. Once again the seafood were cooked to perfection. They actually breaded and fried the prawns and fish before aiding to the pasta which gave them a very nice mouthfeel and texture. The lemony sauce was lite but satisfying. Pasta was cooked al dente.
I was impressed. I watched them throughout my dining experience that the only 2 servers expertly navigated and attended to all their guests. Taking orders, serving dishes, closing orders, busing tables, ....etc. Our water and softdrink were always filled. Our orders came in timely, extremely well prepared and piping hot which tells me the kitchen were well organized especially with the amount of takeouts we saw while waiting...
Read moreAmazing food! It’s a little pricey, but everything in Seward is. I got the calzone and my husband got the special of the day (shrimp linguini with a garlic butter sauce), plus we ordered the calamari appetizer. Portions are huge! Literally, my calzone didn’t even fit on the dinner plate...it hung over a couple inches or more on each side. When the server delivered it he said “here’s the biggest calzone in Alaska”....I’m thinking that just might be an accurate statement! Calamari was awesome...great portion. My husband’s pasta was perfectly cooked and well seasoned with lots of sauce. The service was great and very attentive...refilling drinks regularly. We also ordered the peanut butter chocolate cheesecake. It was TO DIE FOR! I have no idea if they make it in house or not but we ate at Thor’s last night and I walked across the street to Apollo’s to go get my dessert to go. It was that good! We were with some of his co-workers...2 of them ordered the meatlover’s 16” pizza...they are big boys and they still had 3 pieces left over. His other co-worker got the halibut salad. Large piece of grilled fish on top of the Caesar salad. Salad looked awesome! It looked hand tossed in dressing (one of my big complaints with salad....not enough dressing)...so this one rocked! I would totally recommend Apollo’s for a nice night out, just be prepared to spend a little dough. I think our bill was $120 for everyone including 2 desserts. Great food though and wonderful service...
