Belk — Local services in Shallotte

Belk in Shallotte, NC is our local go to. I went in today, shopping for bedding. Well we all know the selection and sales Belk has and how overwhelming it can be. Well not for me today! Yay! I had THE BEST ASSOCIATE ASSIST ME TODAY....I went in on a mission and didn't have a lot of time. Claudia Spence is her name. OVER THE TOP CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! While she was assisting me and another lady at the same time, she was also manning the register, but no one was in line. All of a sudden, a lady came back from lunch and immediately YELLED FOR CLAUDIA across the department. I immediately went around the corner and asked if she needed her for something and she said no. She didn't know she was working with someone. First of all, it's very unprofessional, disrespectful and embarrassing to treat a fellow co-worker that way. Secondly, after observing the situation, I could tell she was texting in her phone while she had a customer at her register and yelled for Claudia so she'd come and help the other lady. I asked Claudia who that other associate was and she said her supervisor. REALLY?!?!!? CUDOS TO CLAUDIA SPENCE FOR YOUR TIME, ASSUSTANCE, KNOWLEDGE OF PRODUCT AND PROFESSIONALISM. You deserve recognition, you should be shown appreciation and you deserve a raise. I will be calling the store. I've only had one other bad experience in this store. Frustrating experience at a Belk's sale Monday night. After food shopping, I was relaxing at home and saw a FB ad for belks flash sale coupon - 30% off even sale prices, plus another 10% if using Belk's card. Couldn't resist. Ran to Belk's at 7:00 pm to pick up a few more Christmas gifts. Found ladies jacket, pants. Men's jacket, shirt, etc etc. I scanned prices to verify sale prices. At checkout, ladies clothes no longer on sale. They are now buy 1 at full price, get 2 free. Prices changed at 8 pm they said. But I don't need 3 pairs of thus brand. Only 1. And she says its full price.

I debated the point but these ladies insisted this is belks policy when they are open late! I wasted my time being lured in by their ad. Won't happen again.

Oh when I bought the jacket and handed them my belks card, they claimed they never heard of the promo for an extra 10%. I pulled up their website and showed them the huge banner stating it. Oh that must have expired, she said. I had to argue that if it's on the site at this very moment, it had not expired.

While we dislike department stores in general, this store in particular is somehow different. Maybe its the people or the smallness of the store, but we have been able to shop for quality clothing at very good prices. But you need to dig to find those bargains and watch for sales. Edit 8/30/20 Well the store that we use to know has changed and not for the better. The friendly employee faces that we knew are gone and replaced with inefficient workers that are not smiling. How can they? The check out counter and returns are at the same station backing up the check out at least seven deep with only one person at the station. While on line this random person is running through the store with bags in hand. This person was smart returning with a manager at the same station and began a return. This same manager did not know the return policy on fine jewelry and gave me a hard time. The manager came back and told the cashier to process the return without apology and promptly left the station and the long line. BTW Some of the prices on line are cheaper than in...
