Worse experience I've ever had. Owner just wanted to argue and not make it right. I went out with my family, my wife ordered the shrimp and grits and smoked sausage and asked for the gravy on the side. They brought it out and said we know you asked for gravy on the side, will you eat it anyway?... no... so everyone else got their food and she had to wait 15 minutes to get hers which once it came, it also didn't have sausage and when we asked they lied and said oh its mixed in the grits yet photos of reviews have slices of sausage. I ordered the flounder with fries.. it was not flounder, they sent out 7 small pieces I believe were whiting and I asked the waitress cause I let the whole table of 5 try and we all agreed it wasn't flounder and it also wasn't cooked all the way. The waitress said she honestly couldn't say, "did you want flounder"? Well yeah?! that's what I ordered?? and she said it could be catfish and at this point I just sent it back and ate nothing. My mom order the French onion soup which tasted like they dropped a salt shaker in. My dad enjoyed his swordfish and said jokingly well i guess I got lucky.. then noticed he didn't recieve his collar greens he ordered. At this point we asked for the manger, they said the owner was there.. we waited for another 10 minutes and the owner comes out, doesn't introduce herself and instantly starts... "I hear you said you didn't think your fish was flounder, well I plated it myself and it was and we gave you extra pieces cause they were on the whiter side." My whole table looked at each other like she was crazy and in shock at the attitude. It wasn't flounder and noticing it wasnt fully cooked and stacking more pieces to make up for it?? Unbelievable.. She sat and argued with us over that for a few minutes and explaining she's been in business x amount of years and how her supplier is well known and has a great reputation (probably us whole foods, frozen never fresh) and then moved on to my mother's soup saying they don't salt it at all and insisted we were liars. It literally tasted like pure salt We then moved on to my wife's shrimp and grits which they knew they messed up but brought it out anyway to see if we'd eat it and no.. we sent it back to get it how we ordered it to begin with. Then we saw no sausage like the menu states it comes with and photos advertise. She just lied and said oh they're mixed up in the grits... no they aren't.. This lady was the rudest nastiest person I've ever met and just woke up and chose violence. We still paid about $80 cause this owner/Karen was too stuck up and had to be right and squeeze every dime she could. Don't...
Read moreWe decided to try Milliken's hoping for a nice seafood dinner, but unfortunately we very disappointed. I have never written a review before, but since we rely on reviews a lot, I felt it was necessary to warn others. First, we ordered the crab dip appetizer, which was a big mistake! My husband and I eat out often and do not mind paying a premium for food that is good. However, paying $15 for this crab dip was downright insulting! It was served cold, with stale pita chips, and it was completely tasteless! I wanted to send it back after 1 bite, but my husband is not one to complain and he did not want to make a fuss. He took it home hoping to "doctor" it up somehow to feed it to the cat!
For our entrees I ordered the fried flounder and scallops, the "southern" mac and cheese and collard greens because they were all out of corn on the cob. The fish and scallops were just okay, nothing to really get excited about, and were a bit salty. However, they should change the name of the "southern" mac and cheese to "Stouffers" mac and cheese because I really think that is what it was. Apparently if you add some cheese to the top and serve it in a small crock, Milliken's thinks it is "southern". The collards were EXTREMELY salty and plain.
My husband's entrée was the "pick 4" and he choose deviled crab, fried oysters, scallops and shrimp. He said the deviled crab was good, his scallops were cold and bland, the shrimp was over battered with no taste and the fried oysters were less than average.
His butter beans were mushy and tasted like they came from a can and the succotash was extremely watery. We did like the sweet cinnamon bread sticks, but we would have preferred hush puppies. The ice tea was good.
Our server was friendly, but when I asked for tarter sauce, he pointed to the honey mustard that was served with our meal and told me that was their tarter sauce...??? I told him I tasted it, and it tasted like honey mustard. He laughed and said "yeah" it does taste like honey mustard and offered to see if they had "actual" tarter sauce. He later told me they did not have tarter sauce. That is the very first time I ate at a seafood restaurant that did not have tarter sauce! As far as the cocktail sauce, my husband said he gets better cocktail sauce at the Food Lion! He said it was just like tomato sauce- no zip to it.
When we left, we both said we wished we had just gone to the Taco Bell across the street! I really hope they can improve on their food quality so they stay in business. We really like to support family-owed businesses, but we both agreed we will NEVER go back to...
Read moreMy son and I ate lunch at Milliken's today. There are some things they did very well and some things that were disappointing. When we walked in the door, the hostess quickly took us to our table. So quickly, that we missed the sign with the specials posted near the entrance. The waitress never mentioned the specials. We were surprised to find out they had specials on our way out the door, and I was disappointed because I would have ordered one instead of what I did have. As far as the meal itself, the cinnamon breadsticks with frosting dip were delicious and a pleasant surprise. The Seafood Dip was delicious and is highly recommended. We ordered a bucket of steamed oysters and they could have used a few more minutes in the steamer. They were extremely difficult to open and so time consuming, we weren't even halfway through the bucket by the time our meal arrived. Also it said market price on the menu, and we were told $25 by the waitress. She came out later and told us the price had gone up since she came to work that morning and it would be $35 instead. I ordered the filet mignon medium rare for the main course. The waitress came back later and said that they only cooked steaks medium and well done. Did I still want a steak or did I want to get something else? I'm 62 years old and I've eaten steak in restaurants around the world and have never before been told that medium and well done were the only options. It made me wonder if something was wrong with their beef and they were afraid to serve it medium rare. I ordered the crab cakes instead and they were excellent. I also got the collards as a side and they were so salty as to not be edible. My son got the salmon which was delicious, good mashed potatoes, and the overly salty collards which he did not eat. There are some things that were very good about this lunch but there is room for improvement at...
