Have to agree with most people reviewing this spot - I definitely think it qualifies as a "hidden gem".
Like everyone else these days, we're broke - so my wife and I are always looking for good, low-priced eats. We happened upon Betty C's while googling for an inexpensive place to get a decent lunch.
We both got their taco basket for $5.95. At that price in this economy, we honestly weren't expecting much. What we got were two massive 5-taco baskets with lettuce and cheese. The taco meat was juicy and well seasoned with a delicious melted cheese mix thrown on top. They were legitimately tasty.
These days I can't overemphasize how rare it is to pay a low price like $5.95 and get an actual MEAL. To put this in perspective, you'd pay over $10 for 5 tacos from Taco Bell - and we all know how sad and pathetic a taco from The Bell can be. When I first saw the basket, I was honestly questioning rather I would be able to finish it all. Full discloser - I finished it all. Because they were delicious. :) Loved their salsa, too. Flavorful and a great compliment to the tacos without being overly seasoned or hot.
I can whole heartedly recommend you stop in and give their food a try. Maybe have a drink or two while you're there. Local businesses like this who are trying to put out quality food while still providing value for their customers are rare these days and deserve our support. We will...
Read moreYesterday, we stopped into Betty C's bar as I had a friend who didn't like beer as we were at Transport Brewery and he wanted a whiskey drink. We walked in and found two seats at the bar. Bryan the Bartender/Owner greeted us and made drinks for us. We were new to the bar and it felt that way when we walked in. However, Bryan went above and beyond. The rest of my family made their way over and my two boys enjoyed playing the pin ball games. The entire time Bryan treated us so well and made us feel welcomed the entire time. This is the experience was above and beyond. For a little dive bar, Bryan made us feel like we were the most important people there. Not only that, you could tell that he made everyone else at the bar feel the same way. It doesn't take much to make an experience great, and Bryan did just that. I would highly recommend everyone to hit up this place as it was a great afternoon with friends and family....
Read moreWas wanting to visit the downtown Shawnee breweries but they didn't open until 4:00, so I found this place on Google. With favorable reviews, I had high hopes. What I received was abysmal service from the older glammed-up woman bartending. She was two busy folding napkins and chatting with the two men seated at the bar, a few barstools away from me, who were obviously regulars. I had asked for a food menu, decided that I wanted to try the Reuben rolls, and waited, and waited, and waited for her to return to take my order. She continued folding her napkins and chatting up the two regulars. My beer had been empty for several minutes, and I wanted to order another one, as well, but I gave up. She seemed surprised when I asked for my tab, explaining to her that I had wanted to order food and another beer but since she chose to ignore me I was ready to go elsewhere. She simply said "Oh, OK" and...
