Nick's Country Oven — Restaurant in Shelby Charter Township

Hadn't eaten here in years; used to go all the time for breakfast...was always great. This experience, however, will ensure that it's another several years before they get another chance to take my money.

The host was wonderful. He sat us promptly and brought water with menus. And then brought us our soft drinks as well. After that, it was quite awhile before the server showed up. Not a super big deal, but off to a bad start. It's a shame when you get better service from the host than you do from your server.

While I understand volume, from having spent over a decade in her shoes, she was very poorly focused and seemed to only be able to carry out a single task for a single table at a time. We ordered an appetizer well in advance of our food, as after ordering it, she did not come back until she delivered it. This did not stop all of the food coming out on top of eachother. Was still cutting into the appetizer to divide it when she showed back up with salads. And we were still eating both the appetizer and our salads when the entrees showed up. We condensed plates; but she took only one of the empty ones we had created to clear the table... The rest sat there for the duration of our meal.

At the end of our meal, after sitting patiently for over 10 minutes waiting for her to come back and check on us, she finally shows up and we ask for boxes. We had 3 plates with leftovers, she brings 2 boxes and disappears again. After nearing 20 more minutes of waiting for her to bring the check, the HOST shows up again. Very polite, very prudent; he asks if we would like a bag for our carryouts or any further refills. We say yes to the bag and ask him for the 3rd required box for the remaining plate of food. He cheerfully obliges.

We then wait several more minutes for our check... We watch as she pin-balls between each of her other tables and the kitchen/line area...one at a time...the entire time with our check in her apron... She finally comes to drop it and we immediately pass her the card. At this point, we have far exceeded the limits of reasonable allowance for delay. We again watch as she does the ping pong dance between each of her tables and the kitchen, individually once again... All the while with our card in her pocket.

When we finally gave up and rose from our seats to head for the door, she finally came back waving the receipt and card at us...

I don't want to say it was the worst service I've ever received...but it was...

We USED to love this place, but lately we have had bad experiences. My husband and I came in and ordered from the senior menu. I asked if I can have mashed potatoes with mine. The waitress said yes. I pointed to the menu and said I'd like the BBQ chicken. I should have known that something was wrong when my plate arrived with a larger portion. I asked for a dish of ice cream. The waitress said that my dinner comes with desert. I said I didn't order the dinner, I ordered from the senior menu. She said no you asked for the dinner, besides the ice cream is free. I said I don't want the ice cream now, just please adjust the bill. She said but desert comes with your dinner. She stood there arguing with me. I insisted she change the bill. I KNOW I ORDERED FROM THE SENIOR MENU. I held it up and pointed to the item I wanted.

A month ago we were there for dinner. We sat at the table and waited 15 minutes and never got a menu. I had to get my own. Then another 10 minutes. No waitress, so we left.

We WERE regulars, but...

Great food but they keep over charging me when it comes to the tip.... Twice I've Written the total as an even amount and they use what I wrote in the total as the tip..... Example, I bought soup for 285, to go, she didn't give me any service. I wrote 3.00 on the total and left the tip line blank so she could figure out the difference. Which was only .15 cents. A few days later I noticed on my bank account that they charged me $5.85. Why would I tip 3 dollars on a to go order that took absolutely no effort on her part? Yes some people do that. But I'm only a good tipper when you deserve it... When you actually put effort into your job. So I went back up there that Day which was last Sunday, 9 days ago... The girl said the manager wasn't in she was his sister she would have him call me when he gets back and I still haven't received a call.... Oh I'll still go there for the food but I'm never giving that girl a tip again.... This "misunderstanding " happened to me...
