What a great addition to our small town! The food was both tasty and great to look at, and the proportions are enormous.
I had the seaweed salad as an appetizer and it was crisp and oceany. Then came the Tonkatsu Kimchi ramen and it provided multiple flavor explosions. The broth was creamy, salty, and buttery with the kimchi andding good acidity. The bokchoy and spring onions had a perfect crispness. The egg and pork were just the right amount of protein and there was noodles for days.
My dining companion is very particular about what he eats but the Shoyu Chicken ramen was enjoyed. He said the chicken was excellent and made multiple compliments about the noodles.
While we were there a robust line of customers for both dine in and take out were handled efficiently, and the staff was friendly. The interior of the restraunt has been remodeled and I really liked the lighting and fun use of particle board. Not so sure I need the pop music on a nonstop loop but it was thankfully not too loud so it stayed in the background.
Day after update: I had leftovers of the Kimchi Tonkatsu and it was even better the next day. The depth of the broth...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Zen Ramen, and I was hoping for something similar to pho since I’m from out of town. The cashier made it clear they only serve ramen, so I spent some time with the menu before ordering the Veggie Delight Ramen Bowl with pork broth, plus a side of edamame. My two-year-old had the chicken rice dish, which was surprisingly tasty.
Unfortunately, my ramen was inedible. The broth and tofu combination just didn’t work for me, and after a few bites I couldn’t keep eating. I politely asked for a refund on just my bowl, while still paying for the other food. The manager/owner processed it, but with visible frustration, and her response left me feeling brushed off rather than welcomed. Even when I asked for a recommendation for something else, she said, ‘it’s fine ma’am.’
I appreciate that ramen is different from pho, and maybe it just wasn’t to my taste, but the way the situation was handled made the experience worse. The chicken rice dish for my daughter was good, but overall I left disappointed and unsure...
Read moreImpressive cute, trendy Japanese spot in Shelton. We stopped in on our way back from the Olympic forest for a nutritious delicious meal after being in the back country. It was surprisingly a lot of food ! The sushi burrito will fill you up with no sides.
Washington Sushi Burrito - delish, would buy again, the outside wrap was a green crepe. I’ve never had a sushi burrito before but there was no seaweed, they used a crepe to hold it together instead. Zen Burrito - my bf got this one, he said it was good but too much crab salad, no rice. Wrapped in a pink crepe :) Burritos were served with Kewpie mayo & Spicy mayo (i think)
Spicy Gyoza - yum!! 10/10 love that it was served with veggies
Atmosphere - The seating area was really well done vibes, cute custom seating. The music was a liiiittle loud and the bathroom was oddly dark. Otherwise im so happy we have this local chain around the south sound and will totally try the...
