The Gateway Bar, Restaurant and Liquor Store — Restaurant in Ship Bottom

Had a great time with friends Friday night at The Gateway. Jimmy Brogen Trio were very entertaining. It all came to a screeching halt when our waitress, Kelsey, asked me directly about her tip. I didn't have anything to do with paying the bill so I directed Kelsey to who did. Now.... Without getting into too much detail... kelsey, apparently, was not happy with her tip on a $302 tab, which I found out later was just about 18%. When the girls (they were the bill payers) approached Kelsey in regards to the tip, Kelsey told one of the girls to eff off! Unbelievable! This waitress had the audacity to challenge a very generous gratuity. When i asked for management I was told there wasn't a manager on duty. Really!? Well that explains everything. If there truly is not a MOD available to handle customer concerns, whether good or bad, then I have to tell you that The Gateway is a waste of your time and money. They don't care about you and it screams through their wait staff. I will never go back nor recommend. Ron, the owner, should tell Kelsey to...

My husband and I thought we’d head to the Gateway tonight since we haven’t been there in awhile. The owner of the restaurant cleaned house and fired all the old staff who were great! It wasn’t busy at all and we sat at the bar waiting to be served, there was a bartender behind the bar who said she was off the clock counting tips…. and then the other bartender went into the liquor store area and came out with a couple boxes of canned drinks. Right in front of us she started opening all the boxes and putting them into the ice to get cold. She didn’t even acknowledge us sitting right in front of her….. she should have asked us first what would we like to drink and then gone back to putting the cans into the ice. We couldn’t believe it! We just got up and walked out. The food has always been good there, but the staff is horrible now!!!! My husband and I have put the sign of the cross on that place,...

Terrible service. Sat for about 10 minutes and there were only 2 other tables in the restaurant at the time. Several employees walked by us without acknowledgment.. A server finally came by to take our drink order and when he came back brought us menus..Asked for water on both of those encounters which I never received.. The food came in a timely fashion as we ordered 2 appetizers, and were "ok"..The cheese for the pretzel wss ice cold and we never received utensils, however never saw the server again for at least 40 minutes to let him know....Sat with an empty beer for 30 of those minutes as well.. This is at least the 3rd time I've gone back chalking my previous sub par visits to it being busy and making excuses...but the reality is the wait...
